Hostellerie Le Cedre
Ranked #4 of 62 Hotels in Beaune

This hotel is very good, well positioned in Beaune.
The rooms are expensive compared with what you would get in the Uk or Italy for this level of price, we paid 180 euros (superior room) for a rather plain not memorable room, breakfast extra at around 15 euros pp.
Compared this to Chilston Park in Maidstone £200.00 dinner bed and breakfast.
The restaurant and staff were very good, top notch meal with the best of everything, as expected from this type of hotel, a vast wine list ( starting price of wines not very low ) Service was second to none.
To sum up a very good hotel with little to complain about, rooms overpriced, restaurant as expected at this level in France, our total bill for two was around 450 euros so bring a flexible friend.

I had read about how good it was to stay here but how expensive eating here was. We stayed here on the way back from Provence. We decided te eat here and we both had the taster menu with wine choice. After eating in various expensive restaurants around the world all I can say is this was the best meal we've ever had and compared to many eateries it was pretty good value. I cannot wait to come back. It's worth every penny/euro.

"Superior room" was comfortable, clean, spacious, but the bathroom contains a tiny shower cabin suitable only for a (small) pre-teen, not an adult.
Breakfast was highly overpriced: €18 for absolutely banal breakfast: packaged cereals, packaged cheese; ordinary ham; some sort of mush eggs (inedible) and very overcooked bacon. This is especially disappointing, because there is a restaurant that claims to be of high quality! Why not have even an apprentice chef on hand to cook eggs on demand? Only pleasant feature was the terrace where breakfast is served.
Staff were pleasant and competent. Only advantage is the location, 10 min from old city center. On the whole, very disappointing for a supposed 4* hotel.

Great location for visiting Beaune and the Burgundy countryside. Can walk to town in 5 minutes, and easily get out to the vineyards without the hassle of getting out of Beaune's inner town ring. The hotel's garage made for easy parking and the outside garden is lovely. Ask for a room overlooking the garden, made for a nice view and was very quiet. The staff was unusually friendly and helpful for France. Didn't give it five stars because there was one staff member who was really unhelpful (argued with us) on getting wine glasses for us. If another staff member had been there at the time, it would have been no problem. Everyone else was really wonderful and very attentive.

We purchased a package that provided 3 nights superior (privilege) double room, two dinners for two at the hotel's outrageously expensive and luxurious restaurant, two wine tastings for two at wineries around Beaune (the heart of the Burgundy wine region), buffet breakfast for two daily, a two hour wine course for two at the Lycee Vinicole which is a school in Beaune for youngster interested in making wine their life's work, and a nice bottle of Burgundy red wine in our room on arrival. The course and all the wine tastings were private for just the two of us, and all were within walking distance of the hotel--no car needed after drinking. While the cost of all this was fairly steep, it represented a huge savings over buying each component seperatly. For example, we calculated the cost of our 9 course tasting menu, not counting wine, as easily $200+, but was includeed in the rate. The staff is professional and friendly. Overall the level of service was exceptional. The a/c worked very well, a sometimes hit-or-miss issue in European hotels. A big "thumbs up" overall from both my wife and me.

We stayed at the Hotel in December 2009 for 2 nights. It snowed while we were there - and the Christmas decorations and lighting made our stay that more enjoyable. The staff was attentive, our room terrific (with an unrequested upgrade) and our evening meal memorable. We ordered the "surprise" fixed menu and had a wonderful 7 course meal for 49 Euros. We hope we can return one day.
