“Thank you, Bruno.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

In April, my husband and I had a very disappointing experience in that our reservation was not honored and we had to stay elsewhere. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. I want to thank Bruno for honoring our disappointemnt and compensating us for our dinner. He followed through with his promise and we appreciate it. It is a beautiful place and we hope someday to get back to Beaune and stay at the Abbaye.

We loved staying in this 12th Cent converted abby. It has such character and charm. It is centrally located and we walked to everything. Parking is not on site but available nearby---about a 10 minute walk in a parking garage, but book this early with the hotel b/c they only have a limited number of spots. The bed was really comfortable---not the usual hard beds you find. And is has AC!! Important on those hot August days! There is no elevator and the top floor is 65 steps up a spiral staircase---plus the rooms up there are lofts so you'll have another 13 steps to get to your bed! We are in good shape but others might have a problem!

Around the corner from the hotel is La P'tite Cave. This is a great place to learn about wine and taste a few. Stephanie and her uncle who run the shop are so friendly and helpful and funny.

Room Tip: There is no elevator and the top floor is 65 steps up a spiral staircase---plus the rooms up there a...

I recently stayed at the Abbaye with my husband and 12 yr old son after a week in Paris. Bruno and his staff were so wonderful with suggestions (in English) and transportation. The Abbaye is simply stunning and a great location for visitng this charming village. I highly recommend staying here . . . what an experience!

We stayed for 3 nights and couldn't have been happier. Bruno and Betty went out of their way to welcome us and make our stay a fabulous experience. They recommended restaurants and things to see and we were in such a great location with everything close by. Bruno rescued us when we went to the wrong location to collect our hire car, personally picking us up and driving us to where we needed to go. Thanks Bruno! I would highly recommend this great hotel which comes with a real personal touch.

Loved this place. Stayed for two nights. Arrived by car we had booked a parking place in their garages that are located 300 meters from the hotel. The owner took us there, and it was in a secure and safe place. Nice to have if you have valuables in your car on your way to somewhere else. Check in was smooth and effective. The lady helped with our suitcases and helped us carry them up the famous stair case. I must admit if you have trouble walking it could be an issue, but for us no problem at all. We even made it up one night after we had too much of the good wine.
I think we were in one of the new deluxe rooms, and it was absolutely perfect. For french standards in a old tourist town we were a bit surprised of how modern it was. We had a great stay the staff meet all our requests, and we even took a wine tour which they also run from the hotel. There was only the two of us along with the son who also is the chef. We got a great tour of the wine region. I would have loved if maybe there was a little wine tasting at the end in the hotel, where we could have taste some of the different wines besides the one at Cheatau Roy. The check out was easy and efficient, and I was taken to the garage to pick up the car. The place is very romantic and is a nice change from the big hotel chains. We really like to stay in these types of hotels as you get the true feeling being in a rustic yet very posh place. The staff and service was in tip top and we will definely stay here again the next time we return to Beaune. Oh and the location is just perfect.

Just lovely. Entrance is off a little alley, but the GPS got us there just fine. Can park in alley while take luggage up, then move car to a free lot just a short walk away - not sure if there would be parking if you arrive on a Saturday in busy season, though. Excellent staff with great recommendations for dining, bars, wine tasting, more. And they even helped carry our luggage up to the room - no small feat with the spiral stairs - 3 floors up! Beware of that if you can't handle stairs - ask if there's accommodation without - we didn't notice any. The entrance to the hotel and the lobby are perfect old-world! Stone steps into the a lower level (almost seems like a cellar) that is absolutely atmospheric - wish we had stayed more than one day or that the weather hadn't been so darn beautiful - maybe we would have tried dinner or dessert there. The room was perfect - renovated completely, but still showing the old beamed ceilings, but a completely modern bathroom, working air conditioning unit and a large and comfortable king bed, sitting area for 2 and a wardrobe. The rooms on the top floor do not have stone walls or an ancient building feel. We ended up in a suite, but I think when I booked online (via tripadvisor site), we were only supposed to get a smaller/standard room. Great towels in the bathroom, but no face cloths (typical). However, no coffee pot or hot water heater in the room was a disappointment, as this is France and it's hard to find takeaway coffee! Convenient location to everything in the old town center, and Beaune is a great place to park if you're planning on wine tasting in the area.

Room Tip: If you can't handle stairs, call first and see if there are any rooms where you don't need t...

I loved this hotel. Located in a 12th century converted abbey, the lobby and restaurant share an indescribable space. Old stone supports rise like old grey tree trunks and you feel as though you have been transported back in time. The entrance is located on a street that feels more like an alley so finding the actual entrance is tricky because the doorway height is about 5 feet and you have to duck down to enter (I am not that tall either!) The owners and staff were wonderfully helpful and because my plans had changed at the last minute and I was traveling with my daughter-in-law instead of my husband, they switched the beds and bedding to twins instead of the king size bed. The stone circular stairway was either the coolest or the most inconvenient thing, depending on your perspective. I am not sure if there was an elevator and if you have difficulty with stairs, that would be my only concern about this hotel. The room was modern with the old walls, impeccably clean and tasteful and air conditioned. It was very quiet as well. The bathroom was very modern and spacious and again combined the very modern conveniences with the old walls and windows. I would highly recommend this hotel. It is located very near the Notre Dame church and was convenient to all the sites, restaurants, and shops.

Room Tip: If you have any problem negotiating stairs, this might be a problem. I do not know if there is an e...
