“Great Pool, Bad Service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

Our family arrived after a long car trip from Paris and spent some great time in the nice outdoor pool. The front desk service was not friendly or helpful. The bar server also treated us as if we were annoying him by ordering. The breakfast server was equally rude. We have been in France for 3 weeks and have had excellent service almost everywhere but here. The rooms are not great, but the pool and location are really good.

The good: The hotel is in a good location for traveling from or to the south of france from Holland. The location in Beaune is good too. It is clean, it has a pool, easy to get to,

The bad:
1 This is a hotel that people stay in one night. Therefor the people working here see a lot of customers. This is why they are a little unfriendly sometimes.

2 the air conditioning sounds like a small helicopter in its lowest setting and does not cool properly ( room 102 ) which makes falling a sleep difficult.

3 sleeping with an open window is not advicable because of traffic and people on the parkinglot early in the morning

4 the rooms are small but the really need to spend some money on refurbishment because the room is starting to look outdated.

If you know what your getting ok. You can get better in Beaune in same price range.

OK, it is a Mercure. Nothing fancy but good location, great pool, clean, parking, AC, and short walking distance to the inner ring of Beaune. meals at the restaurant were pricey but there is a Plaza next door with a food-market type restaurant that opens at 0800 in the morning. It offers the same kind of breakfast for a quarter of the price. Should we return to Beaune, we will definitely think at staying at the Mercure again.

Since the hotel was included in our tour package I could not really comment about the price of the rooms. To me the room was okay, nothing fancy, the bed was comfortable although the red carpet and curtain made it rather gloomy. The thing that impressed me was the presence of trolleys at the hotel lobby which was a relief since all of us had big and heavy luggage. The area around the hotel was quiet and there was not much traffic. We walked to Carrefour which was near by but unfortunately it was already closed. There was a service station just opposite the hotel where we bought some provisions. The swimming pool was probably under repairs or something because there was no water in it. The only thing that was not good was our breakfast. Maybe it was part of our package because we had our breakfast in a function room together with some other tour group. That was okay but the food was barely enough for all of us. We had to wait while the staff left the room to bring in more food. Except for that hiccup the hotel was okay.

Compared to the Novotel (same owner) the Mercure is a big disappointment. Old and rundown rooms, Small rooms. This is at best at 2 star hotel. Even bigger surprise the rooms a more expensive than the Novotel. Even though we asked if we needed a reservation for the restaurant and were told we didn’t need one, we were send away when we wanted to eat. The staff didn’t care. This is France as some people perceive it; rude and unfriendly.
Mecure is a window dresser. Nice reception and ground floor the rest is old and rundown. Now I know why there are no pictures of te rooms on the website!
