I had tried to make an internet booking through their website for a Monday evening for this restaurant, knowing it would be hard to find somewhere on a Monday in Beaune, but they never answered. When we were in Beaune we walked past and decided to give it a try anyway on another night so we made a verbal booking with a waitress and weren't sure if we'd find a table waiting for us the following night, but it on arrival it had been reserved for us. We found the service perfectly pleasant and much quicker than a previous night at another restaurant, also better value. Chose the Menu Gourmand and some good wine to go with it. We sat on the terrace as the sun was setting. No complaints.

It is located right in the heart of Beaune and just over the road from Hotel Le Cep - so it should have eveything going for it. But the food was extremely average. The decor lacking and the atmosphere very noisy. The staff were OK, but nothing fantastic. Compared to all our other meals in the town, this was way more expensive - for 3 people, no dessert, one bottle of wine was 149 Euros.

What a shame, our meals (we are a family of five) were pretty good, the kid's lamb and chicken was very tasty and our beef bourginone was rich and saucy, if a little small. Our bottle of wine was excellent and was not too pricey.

So what went wrong? Basically the service is provided by people who have no clue about customer service. There was a total lack of professionalism: we had to ask to have every course to be cleared, for bread about four times (each portion was about 10cm of baguette for five people), we waited three hours for the full meal, struggled to catch the attention of any of the staff and generally felt isolated and ignored. The staff seemed to be poorly organised, sometimes working the bar and polishing cutlery when they had customers waiting, peering over their shoulders and trying to catch their attention. At least the food arrived hot in the end.

I feel sorry for the chef whose best efforts were destroyed by the antisocial (and mostly teenage) staff. The manager here should employ someone with experience and organisational skills.

For the record, I am British, live in Paris and speak pretty good French, so the poor service was not, I believe, a communication issue.

Not recommended.

service. My wife and I were offered a table on the periphery of the terrasse despite tables being availible in the centre. We sat down and for 25 mins were not approached by any of the staff. In the meantime a family arrived 10 mins after us and an elderly couple 5 mins later. We were ignored as the staff took orders and served drinks to them. Seeing our annoyance the elderly French couple pointed us out to the waitress who said how busy she was! The man said something to her and suddenly our order was taken and drinks were seved. We expected things to improve from there but no, in all 3 and 1/2 hours to eat 4 courses of which 2 were just bite size morsels. The food was good and we do not mind a leisurely meal but we were made to feel the staff were doing us a favour by allowing us to eat there. They really need to be customer focused because we will never go back. M and D.

This place wasn't recommended by our landlord or anyone else who left suggestions at our rental apartme3nt, but it turned out to be one of our best meals in Beaune. Nice set up, very friendly staff, excellent food and a fine wine list. It's very near the Notre Dame Church, inside the ramparts. Prices were reasonable. Altogether, a nice experience.
