“Not brilliant”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We went to Grilladfine on a Sunday night. The room was cold (and it was a very cold October evening), cold enough for us to wear our scarves. The service was efficient but without any warmth or interest at all. The overall atmosphere was possibly affected by the numbers dining, but it was pretty disappointing. The food was good, however and what a pity that the whole business should be spoilt by such slack attention to the needs of the paying diners. The wine list was reasonably priced and varied.

“Some elements excellent, some very average”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We made a reservation for Saturday night, and were glad we did as this popular spot filled up very quickly with a mix of tourists and locals. As mentioned in other reviews La Grilladine is very appealing from the street, with three different rooms, each with a distinct ambience.

Our welcome was very low key but professional. We were seated, promptly given menus and asked if we would like an aperatif. It was very helpful that the menu came with excellent English explanations. I chose the three course 22 euro menu, my husband from the a la carte.

My entrée was the raw salmon with a tomato and basil sorbet – very pleasant. Main for me was the coq au vin – and I have to say I was very disappointed in this dish. The chicken was dry and tasteless while the sauce was bland and quite glutinous. My husband chose the leg of rabbit with a gingerbread sauce which was the highlight of the meal. The rabbit was moist and tender, and the sauce was rich and delicious. It was served with tiny brussels sprouts which were cooked to perfection. My third course was the assiete of local cheeses – simple and very good. I found the bread to be very chewy – not nearly as good as some of the crunchy baguettes we’ve enjoyed. My husband’s profiterole was blowsy and big but lacking any lightness or finesse. Just a huge choux pastry filled with ice-cream and overwhelmed with lots of pretty ordinary chocolate sauce and three big blobs of cream from an aerosol can!

We enjoyed several good local wines by the glass, and the after meal coffee was very good too.

Our waiter was ultra-professional. Although the restaurant was full and he was managing food and drinks for one whole area solo he never lost his cool or appeared under pressure. He responded very quickly to requests for more wine, and we were in awe of his ability to multi-task. However, he was a bit aloof.

All in all it was a satisfactory meal, but far from memorable. Reasonable prices and a good menu selection within each fixed price “formule”. Generous helpings for those with hearty appetites.

“Adequate restaurant in Beaune”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

The menu here was variable. The pork dish was excellent. But my tagliatelle with fois gras had certainly been reheated. The pasta was drying up and the fois gras was overlooked. The tables are far too close together although it may well be better in summer when the outside area can be used.

“Wonderful little restaurant!”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

We walked by La Grilladine and liked what we saw, so we made a reservation. There are 3 small dining rooms with different decors and you can choose which one you want to sit in. We chose the middle room and it was lovely. The escargot was wonderful, as was the Coq au Vin. We enjoyed the food, the wine and the ambience. Would definitely recommend!

“A Local Favorite”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

La Grilladine has very good food, a nice wine selection and fast service. A great place for lunch or dinner. Recommended by our tour guide as one of his local favorites. Ask to be seated in the cellar.
