The food was extremly good, but not the best in france. The snails were wonderful and the cheese plate was so so. The location is worth the visit, it is impressive, but the wait staff could improve on their people skills.

This is the place to eat when the weather is such that you dont want to be outside! The restaurant is in attractive and well lit wine cellars which are in no way confined. The menus are reasonably priced. The chicken in mushroom sauce as a main course was quite delicious- I am always slightly cautious as I dont want the taste of boiled chicken or of dried mushrooms and this was neither! The snails were full of flavour probably due to the butter and garlic and better than my smoked fish starter. We both had the delicious apple hot pudding. The service was good and they were very helpful with the choice of a local red wine. We each had a very drinkable glass of cremant de bourgogne with our starter

Beaune is a wonderful town with many extremely fine restaurants catering for both the locals and the many tourists that come to this region,
The Caveau des Arches has to be one of the best. You could easily walk straight past the unprepossessing entrance but down the stairs you enter a beautifully restored wine cellar that has a very nice dining atmosphere.
After being seated, a very attentive waiter informed me of the specials and took our aperetif orders. I was soon dining on a so tasty entree of beautifully seared scallops and fresh salad.
My main of Beef Bourgogne was so tender with many wonderful tastes coming through. I finished with a vanilla creme brule which didn't disappoint. I had chosen a demi- bouteille of a delightful 2008 Bouchard Pere & Fils Premier Cru Beaune Du Chateau which complimented the main course perfectly. A glass of chablis with the entree and a beer for starters, the bill was a mere 56euro.
If in Beaune, see for yourself: you will love the entire package at the Caveau des Arches

The Caveau des Arches has become one of our favorite places to eat in Beaune. Housed in cellars underneath the town ramparts. Don't be deceived by the rather pedestrian entrance at street level: it belies the charming restaurant located below ground level. There is elevator access for those who cannot handle the stairs.

The Caveau des Arches offers a varied menu emphasizing local specialties and foods, imaginatively prepared and presented in two charming vaulted rooms that are decorated in a clean, bright modern style. It is best enjoyed in the evening or on a rainy day, since there are no windows or outside terrace. The atmosphere is convivial with a nice mixture of families couples and business people. Despite the stone vaulted rooms, the noise level is well controlled and tables are comfortably spaced.

On our last visit, we ordered some excellent oysters and a copious salad with marinated salmon for starters, some delicious lamb chops for our main courses, and excellent selection of regional cheeses and Crêpes Suzette for dessert. Every dish was excellently prepared, the lamb cooked perfectly and served with a nice selection of autumn vegetables. The cooking is not trendy, but it is also not hide-bound.

The wine list is outstanding, featuring mostly Burgundies and is reasonably priced compared to other restaurants in the area. We had an excellent Chassagne Montrachet Red '09 from Ramonet with rather surprising overtones of chocolate. While Chassagne Montrachet is best known for its whites, we have seen more and more reds and find them to be well worth drinking.

Strongly recommended and one of the better values in Beaune.
