“Good location for exploring without the car.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

Pleasant en suite room with quiet air conditioning in modern motel like extension, lovely restaurant in garden terrace, good meals at leisurely pace suited us fine although was aware some guests felt service was slow, good variety at breakfast in a pleasant room. Private parking, no charge. Good value for money.

There's nothing really to fault with this hotel, except perhaps the title 'garden room ' doesn't t mean a great deal. Yes, you're in an add-on to the main and perhaps more characterful main hotel, and look out if you care to, onto a garden some way away. Hmm. Other than that, modern, very clean, not big - but not too small, effective air con, kettle for making your own tea and coffee - all you need really and well positioned for a walk into town.
We didn't eat here, preferring to make a trip to the fabulous Auberge des Chenets some few kilometres away.

Room Tip: garden rooms don t terribly benefit from being by the garden but they are certainly modern and well...

With all my good intentions I cannot say a lot about Les Capucins. This hotel really failed me. The service here is non-existent, rooms are so small and packed, giving you the impression that this hotel is a very lucrative business to squeeze money from every inch.

Having a room at the second or third floor is a nightmare, as the building doesn't have an elevator and the spiral staircase won't give you enough room to carry your luggage.
Definitely not recommended.

We spent one night here as an overnight stop to the South of France, we were very pleased with our choice. Very central to the town so an easy walk to explore Avallon itself.
We had room 405, this was advertised as a garden room, these rooms were a bit like a motel annexe off from the main hotel and as the room description says, overlooks the garden. When we were there unfortunately it rained, had it not there was an attractive garden we could sit out in.
The main hotel was an old fashioned French style hotel, had been decorated to bring up to date but without spoiling it.
Our room was very spacious double room, also had a chair in the room which looked as if it would fold out to be a single bed. The on suite was a very well planned out wet room, lovely hot water and a powerful shower and my must have hair dyer, this was in a good place where I could see in the mirror while drying my hair(something overlooked in many hotels)We had paid 65 euros for this room.
We had a meal while here and found this to be very good, would certainly recommend. We paid under 70 Euros for 3 courses for the two of us and wine.
The breakfast was a help yourself one, continental, plenty to choose from, certainly came away satisfied. This was 17 euros for the two of us.
We travel by motorbike and was very pleased that we were able to park our pride and joy in their garage, no charge for this.
All in all we were very pleased with our choice and if travelling in this area again would have no hesitation in staying here, ticked lots of boxes.

Room Tip: I would go for a garden room again, very spacious and only a hop and jump to main part of hotel.

A very pleasant ‘logis’ hotel. The garden rooms although on the small size (bathroom very small) are smart and clean. The garden is a great place to sit on a nice afternoon and the restaurant looks very nice and is a lovely place to have dinner on a warm evening. The food is on the upper end of average and the service very professional. Nice wine and all in all would say its good value for money

This hotel served it's purpose, clean tidy room albeit very small but as we were only staying for one night not a big issue. We decided to eat in the hotel where food was of a good quality nothing special service was good although it seemed that we were just another customer and not a guest.
