What we noticed first about the hotel room was its spaciousness, which is quite rare in French hotel rooms. It seems that there are differences in rooms. We had one located in the old frame house above the dining room and were satisfied with it. The purple walls are a matter of taste of couse. The breakfast was also good value. The staff was very nice and friendly. We only got woken up by the bells of the close-by church in the morning, but preferred that to sleeping with the windows closed.

Very friendly, helpful staff. We stayed for two nights and ate at the hotel both nights as the food, and service, was very good. There is a nice courtyard area where we sat for an aperitif, and I imagine it would be very pleasant to eat there on a summer's evening as it feels very French and atmospheric. Our room was a little dated but was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We will definitely stay again when next in the area. Unfortunately there is no parking, but we were offered the use of a large private garage just round the corner at a cost of 7 euros a night. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We stopped here on our way south as an overnight break, the staff were very helpful even with limited English. They managed to accommodate parking for three cars a few hundred yards round the corner in their own lock up.

The rooms have quite dated decor, but for an overnight stop it was fine. The rates were inexpensive and everything was as described. It was a Sunday so the restaurant was not open, although its central in Auxerre so plenty of places to eat and drink.

I stayed here with a friend n our way back from WSB at Magny Cours. It was a Sunday so the restaurant was closed but the staff were friendly and welcoming. Bike parking in the courtyard was a bonus too. Its a basic hotel in a historic old building and was perfect for what we needed. Room was spacious with en-suite bathroom, TV etc.

Old Auxerre in the heart of the Burgundy region is delightful, winding streets, a wide river and some interesting shops. This hotel is attractive, half timbered in the French medieval manner and a large courtyard with shady spots, a very pleasant place to eat in and relax after a busy day. The food is excellent, I had one of my best meals ever, breakfast plentiful and simple. The staff are friendly and helpful, kind about my excrable French, and smiling! Our room was in the courtyard, clean and spacious. We were able to park the car very close by without any problem. The town heritage trail is well marked and interesting, well worth following, an informative brochure is available from the Tourist Office. I look forward to returning.

OK, so the bathroom might need a bit of updating, but the friendly, helpful staff make up for that sort of thing many times over. Many thanks to 'Le Guardian' for help finding the garage. We had a double room just off the courtyard and it was big. The courtyard has interesting nooks and crannies and shady seating where you can take un apéro after a busy day travelling. We only had one meal in the restaurant but it was good and served by an excellent young waitress who made us feel at home. Breakfast was one of the best we have have had in France over 12 years of visits and for much less than we've paid in may other places.

This is a million miles away from your Ibis and Formula1. This is a genuine (medieval) French town hotel with the odd quirk and a great atmosphere.

And the WiFi internet access is free and it actually works and is fast!

We'll definitely be returning.

My husband, two children and I stayed there recently. We did not want modern as we were visiting a very historic town. The staff, the rooms and the breakfasts did not disappoint. The staff were very amused by our French, but corrected us when we asked them to. I will stay there again when I return. The location in the old part of town was perfect. Auxerre is a very walkable town with much to see. It has a good blend of old and new, without the new overshadowing the historic. This hotel put us in a good frame of mind for exploring as it was an excellent starting point.

Room Tip: Our room was perfect for us as it had a double bed and then a room off of that with two singles, whi...
