Le Parc des Marechaux is a lovely 19th century building in a park-like setting, on a quiet residential street just steps outside of the medieval center of town. The location is perfect, as it is easy to drive there, park in their private yard, and then walk into the maze of little streets that make up the medieval city center. Our room was small but comfortable, very clean, with a good bed, nice linens, and a good bathroom. The service was outstanding, with a very helpful and kind English woman at the front desk.
The only reason I am giving this hotel 4 instead of 5 stars, is that the decor is not to my taste. As other people have mentioned, the walls are dark and the furnishings are dark wood and Victorian in style. Some of the furniture is getting a little worn looking, and some carpets in the public areas are faded. However, I quickly became accustomed to the style of decor and enjoyed the general comfort, tranquility, and pleasantness of the hotel.
We had never heard of Auxerre as a place to visit, and stayed there chiefly because it was a convenient stop on the way to Beaune-- a two hour drive from Charles de Gaulle airport. The city was a revelation, with a beautiful medieval center, a multitude of half-timbered houses, and much to see. We wish we had scheduled more time to sightsee there.
If we return, we would stay at the Parc des Marechaux again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the park.

A handy stopping point when travelling through France. There is ample free parking - rare in cities - and a short walk to the centre. Staff are helpful and friendly - There is an English manager. The grounds are attractive, and a pool is available. Our room - Lefebre I think - was rather small and with the heavy decoration felt claustrophobic. We therefore found it slightly overpriced. Don't miss Le Salamandre for a wonderful fish meal - expensive but worth it.

Stayed 2 nights. An interesting old 19thC hotel with magnificent gardens, lots of history (and heated pool, but weather turned cold so we were unable to enjoy a swim) and convenient free parking within the grounds. A big thank you to Lydie (Reception) and very friendly staff for making our stay most enjoyable. Very convenient location – 5 minute walk to the centre and beautiful old town. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and the view of the garden from our balcony was magnificent.

I travel to Burgundy frequently and center my travels in Auxerre, because it is convenient. Le Parc des Marechaux is my favorite hotel in the city due to three factors: 1. Good location with ample free parking and a short interesting walk to the center city historic neighborhoods. 2. The facility is an ~100 year old mansion, decently converted to a small hotel (perhaps 25 rooms total) with a good ambience and none of the cookie-cutter sameness so frequent in hotels. 3. The staff do a very good job of making me feel welcome when ever I return.

Their breakfast is good, and their dinner menu is adequate if you don't feel like going out to a restaurant.

The hotel is old and tired in decor. The room although clean and attractive , was rather small. We had drinks in the bar when we arrived which proved very expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful but the hotel was a little like staying with an elderly relative!!! Okay, but wouldn't bother again.
Auxerre is a lovely town with lots of cafe / restaurants and is lovely to wander around in the sunshine.

Easy to find with adequate off-road parking, a friendly welcome from staff eager to help throughout our stay which was 8 days. We were on the second floor in a corner room which meant that no-one passed our door making it exceptionally quiet despite facing the road. There is a lift! We had a large double room with en-suite bathroom. Everything worked and the hot water supply was plentiful. The weather was fairly autumnal when we were there therefore we were unable to use the pool (which looked great) and the grounds would have been ideal in warmer weather. To our delight there were several red squirrels in the trees adjacent to our windows. The hotel is five minutes walk from the centre and the streets are trouble free. The town centre is delightful and full of medieaval timber framed buildings and several grand churches. The town walk is particularly recommended with a helpful guide purchased from the tourist office.
The surrounding area is full of vinyards, forests, pretty villages and varied agricultural landscape making it ideal for walkers but a car is needed to explore the area.
Liked best - the town and surrounding countryside
Liked least - nothing

Great brekfast and lovely to have a pool, however, if returning to Auxerre I would choose the other hotel in the same chain by the river.
