good hotel not too far away from the train station. location is going through construction due to the improvement of the riverfront, so if noise bothers you, bring some ear plugs. The breakfast is modest and is what one would expect of a typical 3 star meal. Staff was very nice and helped make the stay a nice memory.

Room Tip: pick a courtyard room to avoid the construction noise

We chose Auxerre as a base to enjoy some of the Burgundy region and booked a superior room for six nights at this terrific hotel. Our choice of hotel was influenced by Tripadvisor reviews of this establishment and we could not have been happier with our experience.
We were allocated a large room on the front of the hotel with double opening doors and a juliet balcony overlooking the river. There was a large bathroom plus a separate toilet off the entry hall, a mini bar, excellent cupboard space and a queen size bed that was firm but very comfortable. There was also a desk and chair plus two additional reading chairs. Everything in this hotel was spotless. At the end of the day we could sit in a comfortable chair and view the action on the river. Undercover parking is available at the rear of the hotel for eight euro fifty per day or there is street parking directly in front of the hotel.
The breakfast was plentiful, offered a very good choice and was good value for the price.
One of the best things about this hotel was the friendly, courteous and efficient staff whatever their function and they could not do enough to assist us and make our stay comfortable.
This hotel is situated in the best location in Auxerre. There is a range of good restaurants within a ten minute walk or it is about the same time to walk to the centre of the town.
We could not recommend this hotel highly enough and if you plan to spend time in Auxerre definitely stay here and pay the extra for a room overlooking the river. We did not find it noisy at all.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 101

I have been visiting this hotel on regular basis for over 12 years and I simply love it!

The location is really nice and the rooms have the romantic atmosphere you would expect from such hotel. I always book in advance since several times when I have not (all year round) the hotel was fully booked.

I recommend a river view room since it is really relaxing and worth it .. breakfast is the best part of the stay: fresh baguettes with croissants, jams etc! Tres bien !

We stayed at Le Maxime for 3 nights in late September, using it as our base for a visit to the Burgundy region. The location was perfect, right next to the Yonne River and an easy walk into town, and there was secure on-site parking for our rental car. The buffet breakfast was substantial and quite good. The sunset views of the river were awesome. The hotel is immaculate and very well maintained, and the hotel staff very helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay here again.

The room was very pleasant overlooking the river but there was much early morning activity out in the street including two sets of street cleaners in the early hours. The air conditioning was turned off for reasons unknown so we had to have the window open and stick it out.

Breakfast at €12pp seemed expensive

Room Tip: Check that you can sleep with the windows closed if you have a room overlooking the river.

We were lucky to obtain a room as the hotel was almost full and in fact had to spend one night at the Ibis. The room was comfortable the bed, an emperor, was huge and the bathroom above average for a French regional hotel but did not have e wow factor!

We also had a river view but our room was on the second floor and the window was too high to comfortably see out of while seated. Make sure your room is on the first floor to gain the picture window view of the Yonne.

Breakfast, as in all French hotels was expensive for a buffet with no hot options but this was expected.

The staff were friendly and helpful and we would definitely return especially as Auxerre is such a fabulous city.

Room Tip: Make sure you reserve a river view room on the first floor!

The hotel is on the river and close to the Old Town. All the sites of the Old Town are within walking distance. There are lots of bars and restaurants within walking distance. It is close to the Tourist Centre where you can rent bikes. The room was clean and charming with exposed wood. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. It is possible to walk to the train station from the hotel. You can rent bikes and bike along the canal or rent a boat. Great spot to enjoy this interesting town and surroundings from.
