There are not many choices for fine dining in Auxerre. Le Salamandre was recommended by our concierge. Only seafood is served. One would think that there would be some light, classic preparations. Not so- here was pan seared cod on a bed of mashed potatoes with a mushroom gravy and hake covered with olive oil and almonds. Portions were large. One might say: fish for the hungry farmer. If you can find the right dish, the pris fixe menu is an amazing deal. In addition the wine list is very reasonable.
