Overall, very nice hotel. Great location within the walled city. Very quaint.

Small rooms... even for France. We were in France for two weeks and had a hard time getting around in the room avoiding our suitcases. Bed was not very comfortable. Bathroom was adequate. Parking is outside the walled city and costs about 7 Euros a day (very reasonable). Good value.

Note that the hotel provided free internet, but it is via a hardwired connection in the rooms. They have extra CAT 5 cables to connect they will provide you if you don't have one.

We spent three wonderful nights in St Malo at this very pleasant hotel. St Malo is a fantastic place and this hotel is right in the middle in a great position for seeing the sights, shopping and eating. We had a lovely corner room on the fifth floor with a little balcony - even had one of those huge seagulls knocking on our window one morning!
The bed was very comfortable - I loved it as everywhere else we had been had duvets, which made me too hot to sleep, whereas here we had a nice simple crisp white sheet with a blanket. Everything nice and clean - spotless, super large bathroom.
The breakfast was very good value - basically a very nice continental - even had bottled water - nice crunchy bread, cold meats, cheeses, fruit etc. The hotel also has a lift which was a nice change as we were getting tired of garrying all our luggage up several flights of stairs. Staff were very helpful, spoke english and good with suggestions for restaurants. By the way just around the corner was our absolute favourite - Bistro de Jean - wonderful food and quite reasonable.
Overall a wonderful stay at Hotel Cartier and lovely St Malo - hope we can one day return to both!

We were both pleasantly suprised by this hotel. It is central to everything you need in the old town and having your own balcony in the room is a great way to look over parts of the street life and many lovely eateries. The service of the guy on reception was wonderful and so friendly (in fact there wasn't anyone we came across who wasn't welcoming). Rooms were lovely (just needed an extra 2ft of space, just for bag storage) clean and beds were so cosy that sleeping like a baby was easy! The beach, shops, cafes and scenery are all a stone's throw from the hotel. My one only nark is that breakfast was on the expensive side at 22 euros, but the cost of the room was good for quality and location. I cannot believe somewhere so beautiful and seemingly unspoilt can be so near a ferry port! We will be back soon hopefully.

My wife and I stopped here on a trip through France, the walled city of Saint Malo is terrific and worth a detour along the coast if you are travelling through France. The hotel was clean and modern and the concierge gave us some excellent advice on where to eat.

It takes mere minutes to walk from one side of the city to the other and the coast below the walls is beautiful with bars and restaurants. i would have happily stayed longer.

Excellent location as we did not take the car. Shops, bars, resturants, the beach, walks everything is there on the doorstep. The hotel was modern and the room was comfortable, clean and attractive, in my opinion this was more important than the size of the room. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was good too.

Located in the heart of the old town in Saint Malo, the Hotel Cartier is a good place to stay when visiting this area. The hotel has a modern décor with comfortable beds and air conditioned rooms which are relatively spacious in comparison to other hotels in France. Across the road from the hotel is a little bistro called ‘Le Biniou’ which was very reasonably priced and quite tasty! There are an abundance of restaurants around this hotel so finding somewhere to eat isn’t an issue. The only drawback to this hotel is the parking. It was a nightmare trying to find parking outside the gates of the old town. We drove around for over an hour trying to find parking as there are no spaces available for guests in the old town. We dreaded leaving in the morning time as we knew we would find it difficult to park on our return that evening. That aside, the hotel itself is very pleasant and reasonably priced, I would recommend it.

I travelled with my mother on a Brittany Ferry 'Stroller' break and chose this hotel because of the good reviews I had seen of it. The hotel certainly lived up to the reviews and was easy to find. Although we arrived at 9:30 having travelled on the overnight ferry we were able to go straight up to our small but very clean and comfortable twin room. The staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. Breakfast is served from 6:30 so we were able to enjoy that before heading back to the ferry the following day.
I would definitely stay there again if returning to St Malo.
