Only reachable at low tide this privately owned Fort built in 1689 is a "must see".
Guided tour only in French by young and nice students.

I visited and took the French tour but carried the helpful Englush translation. The tour is interesting but compared with a later visit to another site the guide spoke very fast French so it is nor difficult to get all the additional information .

There is little to suggest from the kerb side quite what may lie inside the museum at St Malo (next door to the Town Hall building).

I seem to find myself saying this regularly about many historic attractions, but there is a need to climb and descend many stair to get access to much of the museum building so consider this ahead of your visit if you have DDA requirements, and check (as I didn't notice) to see if there are lifts or 'shortcuts' that can be taken.

St Malo is obviously a coastal town, and has a rich history of maritime activity. Much of this is captured in terms of the content of the museum in terms of artefacts, statues, and paintings. It's quite a diverse mix of memorabilia across a number of rooms within the museum.

Once you've seen the museum you head up a long spiral staircase to the top of the museum where there are some magnificent views of the town of St Mao and the surrounding bay.

Value for money wise, very good. Probably more adult orientated than children, and allow 2 hours if you want to do it in detail.

Its ok for a walk out to the Fort - but there isn't really anything that interesting to see and you could get the history from any local tourist office. Nothing special - and they are quite sarcastic about the brits!!!! not a good idea with tourism in mind!!

Our guided tour of the Fort National was excellent. Our guide was interesting and amusing. There are printed sheets for non-French speakers. Make sure you check the opening times before going out to the fort as it is inaccessible at high tide. The Tourist Office just outside the walls has a list of opening times.
