My wife and I stayed at the Nautilus after she found it here on trip advisor, I have to say it seemed too good to be true. The price makes this hotel the best value I have had in all my time here in Europe, it is right in the middle of everything in the Intra-Muros, you can get to every attraction, restaurant, fort...etc. within a five to ten minute walk and to top it off, the staff will bend over backwards to make sure you have a good stay.
We checked in after getting lost in town since there are renovation at several access points to the old city there is only one road in and out and my GPS led me to one of in repair access points. There is pretty much no parking inside the city its a pedestrian village with the occasional car coming in and out shuttling hotel guests, etc. So we had to park outside the city walls, basically a five minute walk, thankfully the hotel sells parking day passes which allowed us to come in and out as we pleased.
The rooms are nice and clean (we stayed in room 8), small but everywhere here in France they are the same size. It's a historic building, very cozy. My wife, baby and I slept on the bed, think it was a queen sized.
But there is so much to see and do and most importantly eat in Saint Malo that you really should not be spending too much time inside your room. We called up the front desk for our baby milk to be heated about 5 times a day and they were always very helpful and nice, asked for restaurant recommendations and they were always very helpful. I think we probably kept them a bit busier than most guests but they were always very professional and very friendly, and after having stayed in the Paris area so often, friendly is something you really appreciate in a hotel. This town and this hotel are two of the most positive experiences I have had in France in the past year I have lived here. As a hotel it is average, the main thing about the Nautilus the service, the people there are what makes it excellent.

I booked this having read the reviews on this site. THe hotel was as described. A small hotel in the old town, so close to lots of restaurants, the small supermarket is round the corner, and just a few minutes from the walls and beach.

The room was small, but what I expected, the bed has a foam mattress not a sprung one so perfectly adequate but not the most comfortable sleep. THe shower is small- again adequate but beware if you are a tall larger guy.

Breakfast was a straightforward continental style, with fresh croissants from the bakery- beware if you wake up early the smell wafts upstairs and makes you hungry.

In summary a good value no frills hotel within the walls of the old town.

Thank you for this nice comment.
The grading is a big disappointment for us and It seems do not match wtih the comments.
This room for 1p measure 12m2. We know it's not big but it's the 2 stars standard and the price was 55 Euro per night (not 130 to 180 Euro). But we understand the comment from someone usually go on 4* or 3* hotel.
The shower is not big, we agree. For bigger room and bigger shower in our hotel, please choose a king or queen size at 65 Euro.
Regarding the bedding, it is new. We selected the best we could find : It's Bultex mattress (medium). We are so sorry for anyone would prefer mattress with sprungs.
The credo of our hotel are : the value, the cleanliness and the welcome.
Sincerely yours

We stayed there for 3 nights in April and I have got to say that it's one of the rare hotels in Europe where they actually about you enjoying your stay. The room was small but the decoration was great and it felt intimate. I much rather have a smaller room well decorated than a large lifeless one. The hotel was also extremely clean so no complaints there. The location of the hotel is great. It's in the intra muros which means that the hotel is inside the walls of the city.

Our friend stayed at the nearby Anne de Bretagne and it wasn't half as good as this one. When Internet went down during our stay, they hired a guy right away to fix it. At the Anne de Bretagne, they just told us that theirs was down. If you're staying in St-Malo, don't hesitate and go there, you won't regret it. It's not the top rated first for nothing. The only downside is that you can only book by email and not by using a site like expedia.

Although situated in a small, quiet back street the hotel is only a minutes walk from the shops and a couple of minutes from the hob of activity near Port St. Vincent. The decor is cheerful and bright just like the two gentlemen who run the hotel. Everything is spotless. One couldn't ask for more from a hotel of this price and category. We often travel on a motorbike - the hotel has parking for these and cycles which is very useful in a city. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Ideal for a short stay. Helpful and cheerful staff have worked hard to create a comfortable and stylish refuge in the centre of this busy town. They don't pretend to offer 5 star luxury but the hotel is clean, well appointed and welcoming. Highly recommended

Stayed there with family (2 under tens). The room was quite practical. In fact, a 2 adjoining rooms described as family room. Good value for money. The staff were very friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.
Fruit on the breakfast table would have been a tremendous asset.
The room smelled of fresh paint but I suppose that's only temporary

We stayed just one night at Nautilus but we would be happier if we could stay more.
The hospitality and friendliness of the gentleman that runs the hotel are excellent. He suggested us a perfect restaurant which we wouldn't have found on our own and he was very helpful in whatever we needed.
Nice and practical location, clean rooms. Breakfast not so rich but delicious.
