We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the "Surcouf" and I must admit being very impressed. Our double room was a good size, comfortable and well equipped, the bed was incredibly comfortable ( which sadly is rarer than it should be, the pillows soft and beddings soft and cool. Our bathroom was a good size with a proper full size bath ( much appreciated )with plenty of space for toiletries and the towels of good quality too. The whole room was spotlessly clean and quite frankly for the price I feel we got a real bargain in the almost high season, in St Malo. Intra Muros is about five minutes drive, the beach is only five minutes away and Parame is a nice little suburb with all the shops you might need such as Boulangeries, Pharmacies and even a little Carrefour.

All in all I think any traveller looking for a comfy, convenient and very clean place to stay in this beautiful city could do a lot worse. Yes the street can be a little noisy ( it is a city for goodness sake, what do people expect ????) but from our personal experience only from about 6/7 am and nothing too bad at all, the occasional truck and a few cars. Hardly a big problem. Night time was extremely quiet. We found the after hours automatic access also very convenient.

Basically I would say the Hotel had thought about issues carefully and ensured as efficient and comfy a stay as possible.

We enjoyed our stay, the staff was friendly and helpful and we shall most definitely stay at this Brit Hotel again next time we visit St Malo.

Francais :

We ended up staying here through limited choice available after leaving it too late to book for one of the busiest bank holiday weekends of the year! Saying that I wasn't disappointed. It does exactly what it says on the tin. The rooms are small but very clean and functional. It was a little out of town but the 20 min walk along the seafront was actually quite pleasant before and after dinner. It would have been helpful to have a map of the town but the receptionist was busy as we left and it wasn't hard to figure out where we were going (through using the maps on the bus stops!)

We parked in the street beside the hotel and found a space both nights with no problem. The breakfast was good value for money.

The bathroom was very clean, only real comment (not complaint) was that the shower was tiny. Oh and that the wifi was very tempremental (but free!).

Would recommend for a functional stay in the city.

Room Tip: Our overlooked the side street rather than the main street and I would think that it was much quiete...

Knew nothing much about St Malo except we were picking up a car hire at the ferry port.
Arrived 6p.m. at night to a friendly host who had not cancelled our booking despite our pre credit card having a fault due to mistyping error- fixed up no problems and took the lift to our clean and pleasant room. Walked 3 km along the beach into St Malo though we could have taken a local bus, these were not frequent.
Local restaurant, La Hoguette (with an entertaining magician host) was very good, reasonable and close to the hotel so we had a very pleasant 2 night stay with a good breakfast. St Malo is laid back place and the hosts here were very kind to us. Recommended if you want a reasonable, pleasant place to stay in a lovely part of the world.

The beds were comfortable and we slept well, but it's better if you ask for a room that faces not the main street of the hotel, it's a bit noisy there.

The hotel is about 5 minutes walking from the beach of Saint Malo (Paramé) and about 20 minutes walking from the citadel, were the main shops and restaurants are. The hotel is in a residential area and walking back from the citadel by night doesn't make you nervous, even though after 9pm you won't find anyone on the street.

Breakfast is abundant enough (though it's not a buffet) and it's possible to park the car for free in the street. The reception is closed at 10pm and a code is provided to get in by the back door after that hour.

Was in Brittany and stumbled upon this hotel for an overnight stay in St. Malo. With my limited French the hosts made the booking very easy for us on the phone and were very welcoming upon our arrival recommending and excellent traditional French restaurant to eat that night. Rooms are clean, modern and spacious and free WIFI is provided for all guests. Perfect for one or two night and one of the most reasonably priced hotel in St. Malo. We have room 16 on the first floor and room was perfect. No complaints and recommended. 2 k from town or € 8 taxi ride home. Walk to town is along the coast so quiet scenic.

A very nice 2 stars hotel. As already mentioned in other reviews, the owners are very nice and friendly people. We even got to get an early breakfast as we were due to catch an early ferry. The owner gave us good tips for eating out and the drive to St Malo is done in a few minutes. The rooms were very clean. And parking is not an issue either. Definitely an hotel to recommend.

I stayed with friends at this hotel for 2 nights. When I made reservations on the phone I was told that the price of 2 rooms was of 60 euro each. When we arrived one room was 70 euro instead. The reason being it was a "king" size bed. In fact, the double has a very small bed and the "king" is like a double in the USA. The owner was very nasty when discussing this issue and I ended up having to pay his new price. I did not want to ruin my vacation for 10 euros. The rooms were very small and the lights for reading in bed were very high up, so one can not read in bed without disturbing their bed mate. For breakfast you will get as many pieces of bread as there are guests: everything seems carefully counted: at about 7 euros it is not convenient. This hotel was a very bad experience for all of us.
