“No air-conditioning spoilt our stay!”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

Having stayed in an Etap hotel the night before in Bayeux we were expectant of a similar standard. Well, the hotel was very similar decor and the rooms were slightly bigger, with a bathroom with a bath and shower (room 202), but unfortunately the hotel lacked any form of air-conditioning. Subsequently, we had to leave the bedroom window open all night and as a result we had a restless night with the heat and the noise of the traffic. I guess this doesn't matter when the weather is cooler!

There is limited off and on street parking so I suggest arriving reasonably early to find a space nearby.

With regard to eating in the evening, the girl on reception was rather vague in knowing where to eat. We decided to walk to the beach as she pointed out that there were some restaurants to be found. Forty minutes later we got there but alas only a handful of restaurants to be found!

On returning to the hotel we noticed an advert in the lift for eating at the Ibis Hotel (next door to the Pizzeria where we ate on the sea front!) offering a 15% discount. Too late!!

If you want to save your legs and you don't fancy driving, take the C1 or C2 bus. The bus stop is 100 metres away by the roundabout. The last bus returns about 11pm, so take note!

Picked this Etap after viewing how close it was to the Brittany Ferry port, on Google Earth, literally within walking distance, it is that close. The Manageress was typically French, immaculately dressed, aloof and totally disinterested in you as a person. Not sure if that's a French trait or how these managers are being trained, more like automatons than people. Anyway thats my rant over.
Hotel easy to find on pratnav, as its opposite the main hospital do expect sirens though. Hotel lobby very clean, lift clean and working, reservation all booked in, room ready and spotlessly clean. Room had its own shower / toilet with bunk bed above the double bed. Our room 38, had a nice view over a quiet street, all the other residents we saw appeared older couples. Bed linen spotless as was the bathroom.
Main feature for me was secure parking for our motorbike. The on road parking is limited but free however the secure parking is €7 per vehicle per night. Its just across the road, under coded entry key pad and very reassuring if your driving precious metal.
Best Etap we've stayed in well worth the extra and definately top tip if your driving classic car / motorcycle and want it under lock & key overnight.
Breakfast was slightly up market Formule1 so that's all the coffee/juice/tea/bread/toaster/basic cereal you can eat for €5 per person extra on the room bill.
TOP TIP - Tripadvisor find was Cassa Cosi, faux Italian pizzeria with fantastic garden area, nice home cooked pasta & piazzas. See my separate review on Cassa Cosi when I get round to it! Cassa was a very short (uphill) walk or a very quick drive away.

Easy to find, clean and the usual standard from the Accor group, would stay there again when i have a early start from the Ferry terminal to the UK.
Doors are a little strong to get through with luggage though, but we managed in the end.

It is an Etap hotel and you can't expect much from it.
Basic room.
The plus is that it is not distant from the city center and that the staff is friendly.
A good surprise was the cromptherapic shower (that simply is coulored lights).

I stayed in a double room for 02 nights. The room was small but clean. The hotel is located some distance from the city centre or the walled town (you can walk to both but is about 20 minutes walk) and there's nothing around the hotel. I was only staying here because I wanted to go to Mont St Michel and there are excursions there (20 euros) or you can take public buses (cheaper but you have to change buses). If you are in a budget is fine but don't expect much.

We chose this particular hotel because of the easy access and closeness to St.Malo ferry port.We decided to stay overnight and get a morning ferry to enable us to have a good nights rest. We found the hotel to be clean and pretty much of the standard we expected. The biggest plus for this hotel has to be the staff. Everyone from the receptionist, the staff who were responsible for the breakfast area and the cleaners were helpful and polite. I cannot fault their attitude. The only issue I had was the absence of shampoo or shower gel in the rooms. I realise that because it is a value hotel that this was the reason. I think that maybe a vending machine with sachets of these toiletries would be an improvement as I had forgotten to pack mine in the overnight bag. Apart from this it was an enjoyable experience.
