“Fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

We arrived on spec at midday hoping to leave our bags to return later to check in however our family room was already available for us to use. The room was very fresh/clean and with a new shower room. The hotel was located close to a reasonable selection of restaurants and was quiet in the evening on our return so a peacefull nights sleep for the family. We had the family room which had a mezzanine were the twin beds for the kids was located. The only cautionary comment I would make is that the access stairs are very steep and although our children are 7 and 11, the youngest did manage to fall on the stairs. Younger children would require more attention for their safety. Also, while it's located in a nice part of town, it is probably about a 15-20 minute walk to the city walls and the main part of Saint Malo. This was not a problem to us however and helped tire the kids out.

We stayed in a family room (with mezzanine floor for the children) for 3 nights in July. The room was clean with wood floors and had a lovely bathroom with shower (no bath). The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were very good. The location is great, just opposite the Sillon beach and about 10 minutes walk from the walled city. The hotel doesn't feel like a chain - it feels more personal and friendly. I couldn't fault it for the price and would return.

We (two pensioner friends) stayed for 3 nights and could not have been more delighted with our choice of hotel..... ALL the staff are so friendly and helpful and seem really happy.

It is about half an hours walk to the hotel from the ferry port and is not difficult unless you have walking problems or lots of luggage. The beach side of the road is cobbled but the other side is pavement.

The old town is an easy 10 to 15 minutes stroll and there is a bus route but we did not use it.

We had a sea view twin room which was a reasonable size for two people and it overlooked the beautiful long beach on the other side of the road.

There is a rear garden which was nice to sit and have a drink in.

Breakfast was exceptionally good, self service and everything 'topped up' frequently.

The hotel is spotlessly clean.

A computer terminal & printer is available, free of charge, which was handy to do our online check in and print our boarding passes.

A really great place to stay.

Room Tip: A sea view is good but you are on a main road. No noise problems when windows closed.

Stayed at the Escale Oceania for 1 night to break up the transit back to the UK and have to say it was perfect. Location was great for us, close enough to the city but also away from the hussle and bustle.
This hotel was the first that we have taken our 5 month old baby and on asking for a triple room this couldnt have been better. TV great with good variety of English channels (such a bonus having spent a week fuirther south and not hearing a word of English during Euro championships & then Wimbledon lol). Bathroom very clean along with separate toilet. Well stocked, reasonably priced bar downstairs too that we used.

We qwere given a room in the back section of the hotel and again have to say it was great. Lifts working well, and woth the baby in buggy that helped a great deal.

All in all I though this was a great hotel for the money. PErfect location - approx 15 mins from town and with a host of free parking on the streets infront made it ideal (They did charge E£ 15 for private parking but diudnt seem the point). Cant comment on breakfast as didnt take it up, preferred to walk into the city and sample some of the fresh patisseries on offer with a coffee :)

Definately stay here again on visiting St Malo tho...

Very good location in front of the see, very clean, friendly staff, we got a room for 3 and it was very small, since it is a double bedroom with an extra bed.

We arrived in dreadful weather and were grateful for a friendly welcome and early access to our room. This hotel we found quiet and comfortable, all you need for a few days stay and, as others have noted, the breakfast is very good. Another useful comment an earlier review made for non car travellers was to take a taxi from the Ferry terminal, it is at least a 30 minute walk along a busy road in places and pulling luggage over cobbled pavements is not recommended. Good eateries are to be found nearby, particularly down the road to the right of the hotel a few hundred yards, and of course there are a lot of restaurants available in the Citadel, though more of a walk away. This is just the place for a mini break, our first trip to St Malo was delightful.

Room Tip: The rooms are quieter on the annex to the hotel at the back.
