“A very good surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2011

On the advice of the reception of the kyriad hotel , food is very good, excellent fresh fish soup , scalops with vanilla emulsion really nice, you see the difference with some other places around. Don't go for the decoration , just go for the excellent food.

“now I remember why I love France!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2011

There are loads of restaurants in St Malo, inside and outside the Walls, and if you are not local it's impossible to know by just looking at menus and prices where you are going to get a great meal at a reasonable price. Thanks to the hotel's recommendation, we were lucky enough to have a truly memorable meal at Les Embruns which did not break the bank. We chose the 21 euro menu which included a small pre starter, lots of delicious bread and sweet Normandy butter, and jugs of water. There were around five starters, mains and desserts to choose from, all sounding and looking equally delicious. Can particularly recommend those which give you a taster of several dishes on the same plate. The quartet of desserts was superb and beautifully presented. Wines are expensive, but even the cheapest at 16 euros which we chose was of excellent quality. The meal for two cost 58 euros (£53 at current exchange rates) I cluding service. No way would we get a meal of this quality for the same price here in the Reading area!

Service is businesslike, so do not expect effusive or obsequious attention from the waiters, and the dining room is rather functional in decor. But all this was outweighed for us by the quality of the food!

“Superb”

Favourite restaurant in St Malo on our recent trip. Good value menus offered good choice and the food was, in my opinion, fine dining quality. We also chose the house red wine, a Cote du Rhone which was sublime. Pleasant and efficient service. Highly recommended

“Fantastic local food!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2011

We ate at Les Embruns at the recommendation of our hosts at Hotel Beaufort. Les Embruns is located on the opposite side of the street from the hotel, about a block away. It's not a large restaurant and the decor is somewhat kitschy, but the food was unreal. My husband and I ate from the 'menu a 20 Euro'. My husband had fresh oysters to start, which were absolutely amazing...fresh from the ocean! I can't remember what he ate for dinner, but I ate the 'Parmentier de canard confit et sa mesclun' - it was amazing! Basically duck breast cooked in its own fat and topped with the most amazing mashed potatoes...wow!

We only ate there the one time, but I would recommend it to anyone that stays in Saint Malo!!

“Excellent and great value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2010

The last leg of our French journey took us to St Malo, on our way back home to England and we decided to treat ourselves to a last Dinner "a la Francaise".

"Les Embruns" ( extra muros but almost opposite one of St Malo's nicest beaches) was a delicious final reminder as to why the French will always lead where seafood is concerned. Both the set menus and a la carte were excellent in terms of choice and produce and as it also proved when the food arrived , quality and preparation. A bewildering array of fresh and tasty seafood made for a wonderful starter and our main courses of respectively Fish ( Cod ) and Beef were perfectly cooked and quite delicious.

The restaurant has a nice relaxing atmosphere and the service was helpful friendly and unfussy but efficient. It was quite obivous that "Les Embruns" is extremely popular with the locals ( rather than the tourists who mostly congregate intre muros) and there was a congenial ambience.

St Malo is a simply delightful place and "Les Embruns" made us feel even more sorry to leave. We'll be back though for some more Langoustines and some of that fantastic fish...
