“Excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

I organised a big table for a work lunch do in July and was first a bit apprehensive as I knew it changed hand late last year. Jessica was very helpful with the menu and the whole organisation. The whole congregation had a fantastic lunch and couldn't fault the food at all. I would recommend the Sole Meuniere or the Filet of St Pierre. The staff is very attentive yet not too overbearing (like they can be at Claridge few years back). The Tarte Tatin was also a winner together with an interesting plateau de fromage!

“A superb evening”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2012

Great food, Good service and while expensive their menu with Lobster was just fantastic. The decor is welcoming and the staffs were attentive without been over the top. Definately a place to go to if you are looking for something a bit special.

“Good food, attentive service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2012

Eating out in st Malo is a bit of a game of roulette: there are some fairly unpleasant 'restaurants' who exist off the captive tourist market and show as much dedication to their art as a 'fisherman' who fires bullets into a barrel of fish to make a living. So it's important to follow recommendations, especially when eating near the main drag, and what better recommendation than the award of two Michelin stars? In some ways this charming restaurant absolutely lived up to expectations. The service was rather good - very attentive but not in-your-face - and all the staff we dealt with were very likeable. The food, too, ticked all the boxes for meeting expectations. There were nice little amuse-bouches of cod tartare, Parmesan puffs, beef terrine although I felt these - as with every dish that followed - demonstrated undoubted culinary skill rather than the ability to thrill the palate. I had the fixed menu and thoroughly enjoyed the treats on offer from the glass of 1996 champagne through the duck-liver pate on perfect French toast with delicious chutney, to the lobster cooked in the house style (grilled, with cognac). However the shining star of my experience was the cheese course. Five perfectly judged slivers of perfectly ripe standard-bearers of Fromage Francais (Roquefort, chèvre, etc) served with a splendid fig chutney. My dessert, a chocolate and raspberry tart, had a lot of careful twiddles and featured some awesomely pretty fresh raspberries. The rest of the family also thoroughly enjoyed their meals - steaks, turbot, rabbit chasseur - and the ten year old had "the best pudding ever" (a creme caramel - his first). The wine, a €35 bottle of white, was delicious as was the "Breizh cola" - a big thumbs up from the kids and two fingers also up to Coca-Cola. To sum up, this was an undoubtedly expensive meal and it felt good from the start to know we were in safe hands & would enjoy the meal. Felt more like a one-star than a two though (not that I have ever eaten in a two-star before!) on the basis of a couple of minor serving clunks and a lack of actual tears of joy prompted by the taste of the food - extremely good as it was. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone with sufficiently deep pockets.
