“potentially a really good hotel”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

This is a tricky one to review as it has all the potential of being a really good hotel in a lovely little town. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were tired after a longish journey - we had called on the way and were undecided about taking a family suite (which we had to commit to for 3 days) or a family room/two rooms. The receptionist said we could make our mind up when we arrived but when we got there the last family suite had just gone. We considered one of the self catering houses they also have on site which was perfectly acceptable but a little dark inside and finally agreed on two double rooms next to each other in a sort of annexe. The receptionist agreed we could have these at a reduced rate because the suite had gone. Both had small balconies and were modern, very clean and comfortable though a bit 'boxy'. In retrospect we were glad not to have committed to three days there as really one/two days in Pont Aven is enough just to get a taster of the town (although there is plenty to do - boat trips, kayaking, walking etc) and we wanted to head further to the coast. As my husband said - the hotel just needs to settle in a bit. It looks new and a little bit corporate and I think the bar/lounge areas could do with getting rid of the bright pink chairs and sofas and get more of a relaxed country house feel. We did use the pool which was fine but didn't eat in the restaurant which did look a nice space to eat in. There are quite a few steps to the town but they are spaced out a bit and should only really be a problem for the elderly or infirm. Pont Aven is very pretty and worth a stay over but much preferred the art galleries and art in Auray! The hotel staff are great and this hotel is a very good option (probably the best) for staying in Pont Aven.

Room Tip: Probably the rooms/suites in the house part of the hotel are a bit more atmospheric than the newer b...

This is a strange one to review. It ticks all the boxes re comfort, cleanliness, facilities etc, yet there is something missing and I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps it was the lack of people thus robbing it of any atmosphere. I don't know.

The hotel is very comfortable and well-appointed. The rooms were rather dull in their furnishings, but everything was of a high quality. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was large and spotless. We had a ground floor suite which had a nice terrace in front. There are tea/coffee making facilities.

The garden is particularly nice as is the sun deck. We didn't avail of the spa or pool, so can't comment on them. They did look good though.

Service was friendly and helpful.

The problem with the ground-floor room is that it is directly above the pool and one can hear the low hum from the filters all night-then around 8am the noise gets a little louder. NOT great if you want to sleep in!

Breakfast was a little disappointing as there was no cooked option.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not directly above the pool!

This hotel is brand new with an interesting style. Lots of black and neutral colors in the room and in the lobby hot pink couches and some pretty good art. The room itself was a suite with a little terrace and a view - excellent value. The walk down to Pont Aven is quite steep but not that arduous. However, I recommend driving to a restaurant for the evening meal to avoid coming up the hill in the dark. Au Petit Bouchon in Pont Aven is amazing.

The staff at the hotel were very sweet and accommodating. I enjoyed swimming laps in the small, black pool. I've never seen a black swimming pool! But the ultra modern style kind of worked; it was certainly original.

Breakfast was fine - good coffee. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel for a night in lovely Pont Aven. We liked being on the hill above the town.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view over the forest towards Pont Aven.

We got this two bed roomed apartment via a discount website. It had recently been refurbished and was spick and span and in a good location. Best for car owners. There was a small heated swimming pool though one had to watch the opening times. The television had the BBC; the cooking facilities were adequate as it was nearly summer so salads mainly and one could order fresh bread from the hotel across the road. Eating on the terrace was a bit communal as either side had the same facility. Though one could only attempt a simple dish. There were two bathrooms with walk in showers very nice, the village was delightful with good resturants and only a short distance away down a path from the hotel. It was quiet and the beds were new, altogether a great location

I expected more of this hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the property is clean and well-kept. The problem was that my room had a very strong chemical odor, and since the hallway smelled the same, I chose not to move to a different room. I had a headache every morning from the odor. On my first night, there was a very loud outdoor techno music concert nearby, but because there was no air-conditioning in the room (even though there was a vent and controls that look like AC controls) I couldn't close the window. It was still going at 2 a.m. While the hotel couldn't do anything about it, they could at least have taken a meal or two off the bill. Otherwise this place is okay, if a bit cold and impersonal. The "art resort" aspect is a joke -- the art on display is pretty bland and uninteresting. Also experienced a few other glitches: Minibar fridge doesn't open unless you lift the whole fridge above the closet rail, was served lukewarm water (twice) for tea in the morning.

Room Tip: Check your room first to make sure it doesn't smell like chemicals.
