“Traditional Hotel on the quayside”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

My wife and I spent a lovely weekend in Dinard. The Printania is a traditional hotel, with older style rooms and dark wood furniture. The views from the rooms overlooking the sea are lovely. It would not suit someone looking for a modern international hotel experience. The staff at reception and in the restaurant speak a little english and are friendly. Breakfast is OK, very french, but the choice is a bit limited. The restaurant is OK but there are much better restaurants in the town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea.

We only ate in the restaurant having found it by chance in passing, had a very good meal in lovely surroundings and the waitress was dressed in traditional Breton costume which added authenticity to the traditional furniture there. Made to feel very welcome when we arrived and the service was very good so complemented the wonderful views. Would go back again without hesitation.

Thank goodness the view was great (we looked across the water toward St Malo), because the room hadn't been renovated in years, the bathroom had plastic cups (though the shower was great), the staff, though nice enough, seemed unsupervised, and we ate the worst meal of our trip at the restaurant. Did I mention the room creaked mysteriously all night the first of our two nights there? (The second, the ghost seemed appeased, and, look, I say that in jest because I'm not superstitious, but I could find no source for the creaks. We slept badly that first night.) The hotel is large--as if three smaller properties have been merged, and it's possible the rooms in other parts of the hotel are better.

Breakfast--not included but only ten euros fifty--was excellent--a great array of food served on a sunny dining porch.

Here's the thing: we could have stayed in a renovated hotel with a better restaurant for the exact same price.

So shop around. Nothing particularly wrong, but nothing memorable.

Room Tip: Demand a water-view room.

We spent 2 nights here while cycling around the region.

Our room was on the street side of the building, so no water views but was quiet. The room was on the compact side, barely enough room for our suitcases while the bathroom was quite large by comparison. There was no air conditioning however we had the window open with the shutter down so it was ok. It is in an old building with a few quirks and plenty of stairs.

We found all the staff very helpful - at reception and in the restaurant.

We had dinner at the restaurant both nights and the food was excellent. It does get cool on the restaurant as it is on a balcony that is open.

The breakfast was fine however the room gets quite warm in the morning sun - the opposite to where dinner is served.

The location is good - convenient to the ferry to st Malo or easy to walk to the town or the markets.

An amazing old building, full of quirky features, but all very pleasant. We had reserved a sea view room, definitely worth the extra cost. The location is very central, in a crowded area of town, but they still manage to offer secure parking only about 150m away. Excellent breakfast with a great view of the estuary, and helpful, friendly staff. Lots of great walks along the coast, and many good restaurants and cafes around. Much to see and do in Dinard, a plus for us was the English Church, St. Bartholomew’s (over 140 years old) just around the corner from the hotel. Do make the short trip to the Barrage on La Rance, an amazing scientific achievement which has been delivering tidal energy derived electricity for more than 40 years, whilst we continue to only talk about the Severn Barrage.

Room Tip: We think sea view is a must have

A very quaint hotel very quirky gorgeous rooms especially the ones overlooking the bay of st malo.
I would reccomend this hotel for peace and relaxation.
We all 39 of us went on a social club weekend and the service was excellant beach was literally 200 yards walk with the long prominade where you could sit and watch the world go by and the beach was clean.

Room Tip: Ask for the suites overlooking the quaint harbour

I have stayed in many places in Dinard, and I have to say that this one offers the best package. It has a wonderful view, always parking, and its rooms have all necessary amenities. Its breakfast is excellent, all that one could hope for. The only drawback is the internet connection, which is very poor. it is not an ideal place for business visitors. Nevertheless, I will stay there again, for sure!
