“Impressive, but...”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

Was in the area on business and our hosts took us by the Megaliths. a very interesting site although the stones were a good bit smaller than I had anticipated given the name Megaliths. Not Stonehenge by any means but worth a drive by if you are in the area. There are several groupings and some of the stretch for considerable distances. It was raining so we drove about by car and did not attempt any of the accessible areas. Must have been an incredible amount of work for the ancients!

“Awe inspiring relics of former times”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

Row after row of standing stones of varying and graded sizes - the standing stones or menhirs are incredibly impressive and awe inspiring. We have been to many ancient sites but this is surely one of the very best. We fully expected that the first most northerly alignments would be the only field but to our surprise and delight there are in fact several fields some distance apart. Walking near these stones one can only try to imagine by whom they were constructed and for what purpose. The visitor centre is comprehensive and very interesting and is a good place to try to answer some of these questions. We had no problem with car parking and were surprised by how relatively few people there were visiting a site so very interesting and impressive. On the other hand perhaps that is all for the best, crowds would spoil it.

“Interpretation Centre”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

An impressive site with over 3000 stones. The interpretation centre is full of literature on the subject, and a good starting point. Of course, you buy an entrance ticket here. There is a large parking area, and toilets are in a small building down some steps, but clean. There is an outside picnic area.

“Astounding!”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

This is a must see if you are anywhere near Carnac. There are a number of fields containing the upright stones scattered about the area. There is a visitors center adjacent to several fields and this is a good place to get oriented and start exploring. There is a small tourist "train" that will take you around the area but we found this to be not worth the price. You can achieve the same thing with a car, a map, and a brochure. If the menhirs (stones) fascinate you, be sure to visit the Locmariaquer site (nice although small museum with a very informative film in either English or French) and the Prehistoric Museum in the center of the town of Carnac.

“Very impressive and extensive standing stones”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

This site is equally if not more impressive than stonehenge with fields of standing stones that stretch to the horizon. Definitely a must do visit when in this area. You should note that the fields with the standing stones are fenced off with no entry in high season unless you go on a paid tour which only happen at certain times. Do not panic however, as we found that getting close to the standing stones was not necessary, as you get a very good view by walking around the boundary, especially by going up the road to the farm which sits at the one end (off from the roadabout where the car park is situated). In some ways fencing it off is better, as you can get photos of the lines of stones without having people cluttering up your shots.
