“absolutly the best campsight in France”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

For us this is the best campsite we have come across in either the UK or France so far.
This is why:
Loads of space on your chosen pitch & around the site.
The management & reception staff are very helpful, easy going & speak good English.
Great shower block with very hot water both in the shower & for a shave.(how unusual for France)
Very quite for most of the time, can get a little rowdy at weekends, but 99% of the time is very good.
Almost empty heated swimming pool with loads of space in & out the pool.
Good water supply on pitches.

Generally this place ticks all the right boxes.
Ok you cannot please all the people all the time, but this place does it for us.
Cons.
Some of the pitches have not very much grass.

We wanted a genuinely French campsite, with activities for the children and for adults which would help us get to know other campers. We couldn't have been more delighted. The staff were fabulous, and always made a huge effort to speak English if necessary and include us.

I loved the morning ' wake up your muscles' session under the trees which led us through buttock, back and stomach toning. There were also little camp competitions everyday and the fantastic man who ran the sessions ensured children and adults with or without confidence could have fun.

The shop croissants were delicious, the pool was endlessly fun with the slides and the indoor pool ensured that even wet days were swim days. We tried the zip wire, the pony riding and the splash ball, on site. We hired bikes and toured the fascinating (flat) countryside and Druid monuments. Everything was affordable, nothing was too much trouble for staff and I couldn't recommend it more highly

Campsit set in woods . They have Free indoor and outdoor pool with water slides.,bouncy castles and play areas. Horse riding, bike hire and zipwires are available at a cost. We are in a two berth chalet with child which although it's small it is clean modern and adequete. Our friends are camping and say shower rooms are basic. Nice restaurant on site . Evening entertainment is more for kids, disco, mister and mrs. Staff have been welcoming and weather has been good! Some lovely local beaches and towns, Quieberon was lovely!

We have just returned from Le Moustoir - our first ever camping trip to France! We deliberately booked this site because of the swimming pools and campsite activities; we weren't disappointed. The kids loved the pool slides and never had to queue for longer than a couple of minutes. They enjoyed the zip wire through the forest and splatball (a tamer version of paintball) - the activities didn't last longer than an hour, but for 6 Euros each who cares!

After years of going on package holidays and fighting for a sunbed, we were delighted that we didn't have to do this at Le Moustoir - there was not a towel in sight before the pool opened and as nobody stayed by the pool for the whole day it was easy to get a bed when you wanted one.

We chose a Grand Comfort pitch with electrical hook up and water - there was loads of room for our (large) tent, gazebo and car. There was a nice mix of mostly French and some English & Dutch families. Showers and toilets were plentiful and clean enough with varying degrees of hot water depending on which shower cubicle you used! No soap in the toilets though - but I think that it is a French thing rather than just the campsite.

We ate in the site restuarant a couple of times - it was okay, but not a big choice of food on the menu. Pizzas were good and they also did takeaways which was handy.

Carnac is lovely, with huge stretches of beaches, lots of (free) parking right on the sea front if you get there before lunch. If you like ice-cream and/or crepes you will be in heaven!

Overall a fabulous holiday and I'm pretty sure we will be going back again next year.

We like this campsite & area so much, this was our third year there! It's on on a lovely wooded site full of birdsong (and next-to-no little light pollution so beautiful starlit nights), which we always find peaceful and friendly. Easy access to Carnac and it's beaches, very close to the Alignements, about 1hr to Quimper, 1 1/2hrs to Nantes, nearest large town Auray. Market Carnac Sunday & Wednesday. Lots of Supermarches in the area. It's a great area to access the best of Southern & Central Brittany & the North of the Vendee. If you want to avoid the crowds, go from late April- early July and Late August- September. If you stay at one of these sites, you should accept there will always be a little noise as families use them as well as couples, but on the whole I think French children seem to be far better behaved than British kids (my own included!). The staff are mostly French-speaking so helps if you speak some French, even phrase-book French will do :) However, Eric the manager speaks English. All the staff are always helpful and friendly - this year we missed Sonia, who has gone to manage a sister site, Camping Le Lac. We hope to try that site another time.

We always rent a chalet, this year we took one of the new wood-clad couples chalets with a terrace. These are spotlessly clean, comfortable & very well fitted out. The website has photos of the interiors of each type of chalet; ours had a roofed outside terrace with picnic table & bench, double glazed french doors to the interior living/kitchen area. The kitchen has a dishwasher, gas stove and microwave and lots of storage - an oven/grill would have been nice, but we managed perfectly well without as there was a good selection of pots & pans in the cupboard. Bring a breadknife and a couple of chef's/prep knives if you do plan to cook, the only prep knife there was the tiny one for cutting lemons on the corkscrew! Popped down to Carnac & got one cheaply enough at the supermarket, but will remeber to bring one next time. Filter Coffee machine, but no kettle - If you are a tea-drinker or prefer instant coffee, bring a travel-kettle or use a pan on the hob, like I did. In the living area there are storage cupboards, a comfy sofa (can be used as a bed; in fact, my OH spent most of his time napping on it...) and a tv/dvd. All rooms have warm-air heaters, essential this year with it's very cool summer, normally we don't need to use them. The loo is separate from the bathroom. Loo & bath have very modern fittings, lots of storage and the shower is great, like a power shower, but runs off the hot water so make sure you keep the water heater on if your other half takes long showers! Good size bedroom for a chalet - enough room to get down the sides of the bed without a shuffle, unlike some chalets we've had! Comfortable wide bed, well-lit dressing table, fitted wardrobe and storage shelves. Loads of power points in the chalet and free wi-fi access in the area round the Reception ( - most folks sit on the terrace by the pools or the picnic tables nearby to use it).

The chalets onsite are available in various sizes with versions ideal for couples or families. Each is sited on its own plot with enough space for parking, a barbecue (small metal barbie supplied) and sunloungers/play area for children. The camping/motorhome sites are all approximately the same sizes, well supplied with water and power and easy access to very clean shower/wash/toilet facilities nearby with covered washing-up sinks outside and a small launderette with a couple of large Maytag machines & dryers at the end of the block. There is a small, well stocked grocery shop with fresh bakery every morning: the bar/restaurant is open evenings, with entertainment between late July-mid August - never found it loud enough to be a nuisance. We loved this year's menu, works out at about 11-16 euros a head for starter, mains and dessert. and take-out is available - they make great pizzas (far superior to any p-zza h-t stuff) as well as the main menu. The Bar is closed Mondays - as is most of France! Table tennis tables, small boules court & Play area for small children are opposite the bar; pony rides and zip-wire available onsite, book at the reception. There's also a small sports court onsite; There are two small outdoor pools with various slides - great fun for little kids... and big kids too! - these are surrounded by loungers, nextdoor is the indoor pool with a shallow toddler area and jacuzzi; go early at 8a.m. when it opens for a peaceful swim otherwise it's nearly always busy! The reception has leaflets and brochures available about local attractions and they are usually up on what's on in the area, you can buy a postcard and a stamp there too.

I'd recommend this site as a good lower-cost option away from the crowds, you get peace & quiet if you want it, but it has easy access to major roads and is close to the beaches or pretty villages and towns of Brittany. There are bars and clubs aplenty in nearby Carnac if that's your thing. The site and locale is ideal for ages with something for everyone. It's a great area for cycling (reasonably flat) and walking too. Not for you if you want everything laid on and room service, it's not that sort of holiday!

Room Tip: Book early, this is a small site, but very popular with lots of return visitors.

I couldn't make my mind up whether to give this 3 or 4 for my rating, but lumped for 3.
The good points:
Lovely location, in the middle of a forest. Also near to Carnac, you can walk to the allignments and it's a short drive to the beaches. Good facilities. Lovely indoor and outdoor pool. Friendly staff. Clean toilets and hot showers which believe me is a god send in French campsites!
The bad points. Noisy at night if you happen to be near to the bar or if there are noisy campers nearby. I don't mind noise to a point, but when you have young children, who get up with the sun, it's no fun when people are shouting and screaming in the early hours. Some pitches were quieter though.
Also I asked for a big pitch for a very large tent and we were cramped on to a tiny pitch. It was a real squeeze to get everything on. That said, this seems to be how most campsites are going, even on the continent. Which is a shame because camping should be about space.
However compared to other campsites I've been to, I would recommend it, especially as it is a very good price, for good facilities for the kids in a great location.

Very family orientated. Swimming facilities excellent (in door, outdoor & slides) Staff polite & helpful. Free access to internet. Bar good, though no sparkling wine of any kind. Didn't try the food. Shop handy. Evening entertainment okay. But we also go to Butlins every year so I suppose we have been spoilt on that side of things. Horse riding for the kids too on site, 4 euros per half hour. Also tennis, ping pong, crazy golf, zip wire & bike hire on site. We took our caravan but there are also cabins on site. Have to go Super U for camping gaz if you use it. Do sell some sort of gas on site on site, in large gold canisters? Excellent for the family overall.
