“Peaceful little chapel”

Fantastic views from the chapel perched on a rocky outcrop. Very peaceful inside. Good place for quiet reflection after the climb up.

“Iconic image of Le Puy-en-Velay, definitely worth the time to visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

A church built on top of an ancient volcanic plug. Hard to imagine how they did that, but building things on impossible locations is one of those challenges that has to be met, particularly where religious symbolism is involved.

The stairs to climb up to the top are not as rigorous as you might think (there's only 200 of them if I recall) - it's worth your effort to make the climb.

Once there, if you're lucky enough to have the place to yourself as we were, it's quite a special experience spending a little time there meditating and marvelling at how all this was done - and why.

“One of the most fabulous sites ever!”

Unbelievable! Look at some of the photos on-line. It's really not that hard to walk to the top, either.

“Worth climbing so many steps”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

Very atmospheric, how it every got built so high up is a mystery, definately worth visiting but you have to be reasonably fit to cope with so many steps. It only cost 3 euros which was good value.

Construction built on top of lava plumes. Fantastic view! Lots of stairs but easy to navigate.
