This engaging little restaurant is run by a couple – he in the kitchen, she (speaking perfect English) front of house. The food is imaginative, presented from a short menu, with a ‘plat du jour’. There is a strong rapport between the two (as so there should be), which was evident in trying to resolve my wife’s insistence that the meat could be as perfectly cooked as they liked, but that she should see no blood. We were invited to ‘trust the chef’, and he certainly delivered.

As is normal there are tables outside in a narrow street, which are fine if you want to breathe diesel fumes as cars pass slowly by, inches from your shoulder. Plus if you prefer tobacco-smoke free breathing, inside you should go.

Good place to eat.

Four of us were in Clermont-Ferrand for a wedding; our choice of a restaurant for the Friday night was made fairly easy by the very favourable TripAdvisor reviews on this restaurant. It being a hot evening, we were looking to take our apéros outside in the pedestrian area around the restaurant. However, we were met with indifference at the first 2 bar-restaurants we tried (2 of our party speak fluent French) so in the end we took our drinks at tables in the street outside the restaurant itself!
If the reception and attention we were given on arrival were an indication of what we could expect to follow, we were in for a splendid meal. The restaurant is run by a couple (he is the chef, she runs the dining area) and explanations of the dishes and wines were willingly and knowledgeably given. We all chose different dishes (and tasted each other’s) so we had most of the menu choices covered.
The meal was indeed very good, cooked with care and skill using fresh ingredients (they do not have a freezer!) but our meals lacked that certain something to lift them into the class we were expecting from the eulogising Tripadvisor reports.
Our bill, including apéros before and a bottle of wine with our 3 courses, came to around 45€ per person.
We had no complaints and left happy, but we would most probably not return here – there are other restaurants to try!

Really great service, staff seemed focused and very keen on high customer satisfaction.
One person allergic to gluten - NO problem at all, they really knew what they were doing in the kitchen!!!
Traditional and modern cooking, we were impressed :)
Try to find it!

It is, as the locals say, une bonne addresse. Serious cooking for serious eaters in a small but quite pleasant room in the old town. Helpful and knowledgeable service. Very fair price for the quality.
I was encouraged by the waitress to try "ris de veau" (the thymus gland of a calf); and when I asked for more information the chef emerged from the kitchen to describe the taste for us as "somewhere between liver and veal flesh" - which was spot on. The meat was delicious, but quite rich, so it did not need the richness of the sauce that accompanied it. Other dishes were fine - but three courses and wine did leave me feeling rather bloated, so take care when ordering!

We had a nice leisurely dinner -- perhaps too leisurely as we were in the restaurant for nearly three hours as the duration to get our entrees, and then our main course, were painfully slow given the relatively simple cuisine. Our entrees were all simple salads, and the main courses were quite basic fish and meat dishes with mashed potatoes and two asparagus. Thus, the wait was quite unacceptable, and the thought of venturing into a third course was ominous as we wanted to get up and stretch our legs after sitting for nearly three hours. The salads were the weakest part of the meal, especially the greek salad which was basically some sliced cucumber and tomato with a large slab of feta cheese. The fish was fresh and nicely prepared, as were the meat dishes, according to our friends. If they can get their service and kitchen better organized, this would be a pleasant spot to return to for a informal and relaxed dinner.
