“a good day out”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

If you are in the area then you just must go and see the extinct volcano. Its only 5.8 euros to go up by train and free to walk back down but you can pay for a return trip as well. Good info about the Roman Temple on top and about the volcano. It really is a must if you are staying anywhere within 50miles of the Dome. Also there is a another volcano this time with crater close by with masses of parking with picnic tables and an easy walk up. I think its called Piou and is also a must if you have the time.

“Fabulous views!”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Over the years we have climbed Puy-de-Dome at least 5 times-I'm rather glad there is a train now! We enjoyed the exhibitions at the top, and the train trip was really enjoyable. The views are absolutely stunning!
However.....the food in the cafe wasn't great, and was very expensive!

“Wonderful views but watch the weather”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

We planned to end our visit to this part of Auvergne with a sunset visit to Puy-de-Dome. Unfortunately, hail was falling as we arrived (in late May) and the clouds were growing thicker at the summit. We took the train anyway, hoping for the best, but it was not to be. The clouds only grew thicker, and we finally gave up and rode the train back down. What we saw of the vistas before the clouds closed in was amazing, and we will definitely try this again on another visit. But don't bother with the food at the little cafeteria. We thought it was an actual restaurant, but it only offers some pre-packaged food that is barely edible.

“Pick a Sunny Day for Good Views”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

The railway is now operational again, and is the only mechanised way to the summit from the free car park.
The exhibition on the roman temple is also worth seeing.
However, the main reason for visiting is to see the views of the Auverne volcanoes, which is a bit tricky when the summit is in the clouds.

“The Puys”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

The Puys are great for a walk in fresh air with lovely views over the whole region. Go in good weather as they're very exposed. Access is pretty good from the parking spots and there are a number of cafes around the foothills,
