“wonderful views from the top!”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Great way to spend a few hours. Got a return ticket for 9:50 euros and took the train up to the top. The train takes about 10 mins to make its climb and the views on the way are amazing. Make sure you make a note of the train times back down again as when we went it was only one train per hour. At the top you can walk off round the summit and look at the exhibits in the visitors centre. There is also some roman remains with its own visitors centre which is worth a look (and free!) There is also a cafe and restaurant at the top. The restaurant was very busy so thought we would just have a coffe and sandwich in the cafe. Trouble was that the cafe had sold out of all food! How silly is that! I'd suggest that you take a picnic like most other people seemed to have done. All in all a great way to spend a few hours.

“Must see”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

The view one has of the region is unsurpassed. There is a tramway going all the way up, but everyone in good health should walk up on foot. After a 20 - 40 minutes walk from the pass of Ceyssat (follow the D68 road from Clermont-Ferrand) you'll be rewarded with a superb 360° view of the region.
When the weather allows it, there is a big chance you will see paragliders and even enjoy a flight yourself with one of the instructors in a duo flight. Put on some hiking shoes or at least shoes that provide support if you decide to walk up this ancient volcano trail.

Reviewed September 2, 2012

great walk up and once at top the low lying cloud cover all of a sudden lifted to reviel a very impressive view of clemont ferrand and its spectacular cathedral and the Mont Domes and views to the Mont Dores to the south and if ya dont fancy the walk there is a massive car park area with train link to the top :)))
i parked slightly further on to walk up the mule track which was nice and another bonus is parking is free in true french style the parking unlike any carpark within range of anything beautiful in england :))
