Stayed here for two nights at end August 2011. The place is ideally situated - in the center of town, and 5 minutes' stroll from the beach.

However - while the decor bends over backwards to be charming, this is a paper-thin cover for second-rate, overpriced accommodation. The rooms are small, without air-conditioning or even a fan (important on 35C days and high humidity.) As others have remarked, the hotel is not "liveable" - it only offers a bed (a hot and humid one!) for the night. Unless you plan to roast on the beach every moment and every day, this is a difficulty.

Most of all, the place, despite having no problem taking money from "des etrangers" provides distinctly differential service to them and to French guests. We are quiet, neat and speak French - but only the French guests were given chilled water outside on hot days and we were referred to as "les etrangers" by the extemely tense and apparently prejudiced blonde woman in charge on the obviously incorrect assumption we couldn't understand. Won't be coming again.

This is the hotel you should stay in Saint Jean de Luz. This address is perfect to enjoy both the city as you are just off rue Gambetta and a few minutes walk from the beach. The hotel is small, having only 10 rooms, and has a true local character. The owner and the staff are very warm, making you feel at home.
The breakfast is great, served in the beautiful garden or the small salon de thé. The rooms are well designed with a lot of very nice touches! The only point I would change is the length of the bed (190cm).
Definitely the place to stay in for a local flair in St Jean!

This is a good looking hotel inside the city of St Jean de Luz. We stayed in one of their best rooms but all the rooms are small, lack TV, Minibar (if you need a fridge), hair dryer. Bath amenities are frugal (one soap and one shampoo/gel). Rooms are not livable and you better spend your time outside of the hotel.
There is no staff after 8pm and therefore no room service of any sort. There is a breakfast setting outside in the garden and inside in a small room.
Overall this hotel is more doll house rather than a place to rest and enjoy the place. It is close to the beach (5 mn walk). so if you have to stay in this hotel because you have not found other or better places to stay, just be aware and don't have high expectations for comfort.

The hotel has got a lot of character and it is situated in a pedestrian street very close to the beach and to the shopping streets. I guess here you pay for the good location as there is neither TV nor minibar in the room and no possibility to have a drink after 20.30.
Breakfast is not included and costs 12€/person which I found too much for a coffee with some pastries.
I wouldn't return.
