While walking along the promenade enjoying the beautiful views we came upon Cafe de Paris. They have the usual slate out front with the menu. It was in French and as we were trying to figure out what was what, a gentleman approached and explained the menu to us and asked if we wanted to be seated. We told him we were headed to the lighthouse and would return to have lunch. Upon our return, all the outdoor tables were occupied. I asked him how long it would be. He ran back inside and out he came carrying a table for us! That is service. We ordered and he told us that if we didn't like what we had, he would replace it with another dish? What? No need to as we had the grilled squid and the Axoa de veau which is a veal dish and both were very tasty. Flavors just dancing in your mouth :-) The location offered beautiful views over the St Jean de Luz bay. We sat there for almost 2 hours enjoying the ambiance. Turns out the gentleman was Phillip the owner. Since it is October and off season we knew this restaurant would be good because it was all locals and they know where to eat. Wonderful experience, highly recommend.
