“Anticipating your every wish”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

For a good fresh fish simply prepared and cooked to perfection we were not disappointed. The suggestions were excellent and our every desire was met. The seating inside is nothing special but they have outdoor seating of course onto a narrow busy street.

“Lovely experience mais tros cher”
Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

We liked the atmosphere here that much we went twice. Both occasions were lovely with great seafood & wine. The first time we were recommended the Bayonne ham with turbot for the main course. With kir for aperitifs, wonderful Jurancon sec & cafe it was ~120€. Great service, nice ambience, delightful food & a hole in one's pocket. The second time we thought we would have the standard menu, but it was withdrawn before we sat down later in the evening, so went for oysters, sole meunière & Jurancon sec. Delightful once again. The hole dans ma poche got a little larger!

“Great Seafood Restaurant”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

When we are in St Jean de Luz, we nearly always eat at the L'Alcalde. Our latest trip involved two stays in the town and we ate here on both occasions and we had two excellent meals. We are seafood addicts and both times we enjoyed superb locally caught shellfish and fish. All the dishes were perfectly cooked and not overly fussy. The lady owner is always on hand to advise on the menu and the young but efficient and enthusiastic staff are great. A small wine list of fairly local and Spanish wines.

“'L'Assiette de Fruits de Mer' is what to go for”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

Having seen reviews of this restaurant after our two visits, I must say I would not agree that the service is poor. We found the service excellent. I feel that 'L'Assiette de Fruits de Mer' is what they are very good at and some other dishes are not so exciting. On our first visit we had the set menu and found it pleasant enough, but what brought us back was the above-mentioned starter. We had a larger version of that on our next visit and thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Not brilliant”
Reviewed May 25, 2013 via mobile

This seafood specialist restaurant is OK but certainly not brilliant. I thought the prices outstripped the quality of the produce.
The impression is of a place resting on the laurels of perhaps better times. Would have to move up in effort to warrant a return visit but as there is so much competition in St Jean de Luz a return is unlikely.
