“Good enough to make me write a review”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

Chez Maya is a wonderful restaurant tucked within old town St. Jean de Luz (from the main square walk up to the church, hang a left, hang a right on Rue St. Jacques and it's right there). This place is cozy, warm, and friendly. A Basque family operates the restaurant and they work it! Attention to detail, great service, kissing and hugging their regulars, conversing with guests... their fantastic. The food is even better. For me, Tapas, paella with chicken, and Gateau Basque... wow, was it good! Just a really great dining experience.

“Very good bistro food”
Reviewed August 25, 2011

Very nice small bistro-style restaurant in the resort town of St. Jean de Luz. Tucked away on a side street near the beach walk, the cozy Chez Maya is a typical French family operation, with a menu of traditional food--with a fair amount of seafood--at moderate prices. The dishes are well prepared and served with a smile by the busy, but cheerful ladies running the place. The wine list is basic, but okay. Chez Maya is a pleasant change from the razz-a-tazz food stands and tourist emporiums that line the main drag of St. Jean.

“Good service and interesting food.”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

We went to this restaurant on the basis of the recommendations and enjoyed the food and service. The air conditioning system is bizarre but effective. Cosy atmosphere, traditional decor and well run.

“Excellent Food, Traditional Setting, Interesting Air Conditioning”
Reviewed May 25, 2011

A wonderful traditional atmosphere, friendly service, and excellent food made Chez Maya a good choice. We arrived just before the busy evening dining hour and were lucky to get the table by the window. We tried to decide between ala carte and "menu" so two of us did ala cart and one "menu". There was enough food for 6...we were only three! Next time one or two appetizers and one "menu". The "menu" included appetizer, entre and dessert, each one enough to share. The paella was as good as I've ever had. Oh yea, the "interesting air conditioning"....mechanically operated it works amazingly well...you'll have to see for yourself.

“Charming decor with good food”
Reviewed April 23, 2011

Have thoroughly enjoyed their traditional food and rustique ambiance. Its not your 3 star Michelin, but offers excellent food at great value.
The service was slightly long between courses but their friendliness most certainly made up for this.
