“Great Time and Space”

Great Time and Space

This is a wonderful place to be and to relax both inside the Cuisine d’Alice (beautiful comfortable accomodation) and outside on the grounds (swimming pool and walks). It is also a wonderful place to use as a base to visit the Dordogne with the help of Catherine and Maxence the 2 very warm, helpful and knowledgeable owners. I will be back, This is the best “Gite” I have ever been in.

“Perfect peace and quiet”
Reviewed August 21, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We spent a wonderful relaxed week in La Cuisine d'Alice. It was ideal for my wife and I with just the right facilities we needed for our time. Despite the extreme heat for the first few days (up to 38C according to our car) the rooms were cool and refreshing when we got home. We really enjoyed the pool, and walking in the extensive oak woodlands surrounding the house. Zubellon the donkey and his companion sheep were always welcoming and we had a lot of fun feeding them both. Walking into the centre of the village for food and bread was easy. Despite a thoroughly indecent ability to communicate in French (I blame growing up in Africa) Catherine and Maxense were kindness personified in speaking to us in English and letting us know where the best places to go were. We loved Maxense's magic map he lent us.

Love the place, would really like to try it in winter so we could make very good use of the large open fire.

“Perfect setting for a romantic Dodogne holiday”
Reviewed May 15, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

This delightful cottage is the perfect setting for a romantic Dordogne holiday. As an Australian couple travelling to Cubjac for five days, we couldn't have been happier with our choice of accommodation. La Cuisine d'Alice is beautifully furbished with tasteful finishes and great attention to detail... luxurious bed linens, hand painted bathroom tiles, well-equipped stylish kitchen, ipod dock private garden and inviting fire place. Le Maine is a beautiful property and Catherine and Maxence are the perfect hosts, from the first email communication to the fond farewell. They provide a warm welcome, helpful local advice for day trips and restaurants, as well as the sense that you have made friends (a highly desired thing but rarely achieved on holidays). Thank you for a wonderful stay. We look forward to our return!

“Our home away from home”
Reviewed December 10, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

We have stayed at Le Maine 5 times during the past 2 years. As a couple, with children, parents and friends. We plan to come back over and over again and share this experience with our loved ones.

From the first time we have visited Le Maine we have been captured by the magic of this place and the hospitality of the owners, Catherine and Maxence. What makes this place unique is the combination of a beautiful countryside where mankind has chosen to live since the dawn of time and the passion with which Catherine and Maxence have shaped their dream.

We have been privileged to travel and visit many places in the world. However very few places give us this level of sheer enjoyment and perhaps even inner peace.

Dear Catherine, you have set out to create the most beautiful place in Dordogne. It may well be that you have exceeded your goal.
Look forward to seeing you guys again as soon as we can.

“A Stunning Gem in the Perigord”
Reviewed November 24, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

The little town of Cubjac, France may not be on your map but consider it a discovery and Le Maine a very special destination. Nestled into a bend of the lazy Auvezere River one feels light years from Perigueux – but in reality you are only a half hour away. As you step into “another life” at Le Maine, this becomes more meaningful for the traveler who delights in putting down roots in the terroir on holiday. For here, you have the best of the Perigord at your fingertips.

In Cubjac, there is baker, a butcher, a great little bar (with live music!), and a helpful pharmacist surrounded by towns with healthy local markets. Nearby in Perigueux, you have the power of Le Clerc for general supplies including grand a selection of wine. Stock up because Catherine and Maxence have created a perfect kitchen set up. You may just stay home for dinner more than you expect.

Plan to stay at least a week and unfold yourself into the lush landscape that is the Perigord Noir. One realizes from the first glimpse of Le Maine that the manor house is seated to enjoy the view. Its tall windows open out to a vast pastoral scene that invites you “in”. It is here at Le Maine, your hosts Catherine and Maxence have chosen to create a vision for a holiday capable of infusing and replenishing one’s soul to its core. We learned a new meaning for the word “chartreuse” and fell into a rhythm we’ll just call “plush”.

Le Maine is visually arresting, simply stunning. One may walk for hours on the paths through the woods or for short jaunts to clear the mind and enjoy sweet, fresh air. Catherine and Maxence welcome you to their life in the country with grace and attention to detail. We stayed for eight nights in Cuisine D’Alice . At each turn, we marveled at how well designed Cuisine D’Alice was – from the romantic loft bedroom and bath with amazing linens to the sitting room. The kitchen charmed me at every turn – from the real knives to work with to the high end appliances. The artful flat, glass and plate-ware created a dining experience in itself. We look forward to returning to Le Maine. The guest book attests to blissfully satisfied travelers…and it is all true.

Le Maine is in a terrific location to explore the Perigord. Dust off your French– you will unlock experiences you may not have imagined.
(p.s. Both Catherine and Maxence speak excellent English – and are most patient with those who strive to speak.)

“The perfect getaway in Southern France”
Reviewed September 3, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

What a great place to stay. From the moment we arrived we knew it was somewhere special.

We were greeted with huge smiles from the hosts Catherine and Maxence on arrival then was totally blown away by the Accomodation, It was like your own little barn conversion, spotless and delightful. Although there were three properties in total, you rarely see the other guests apart from at the shared pool, which was meticulously cleaned by Maxence every morning. Some people may find it strange that the hosts stay on the property, but don’t let it put you off, they stay out of your way but are always there if you need them always happy to help you with day trips or restaurant bookings. The only downside is that we only had one week there, another 7 days would have been perfect!
