“Perigord Paradise”
Reviewed July 2, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We have stayed in several rental homes in France and I have to say that this was the most comfortable, relaxing one we have found. Catherine and Maxence have created a wonderful place for anyone looking to discover this part of France in a very peaceful manner. The home itself is the old barn which has been converted into a two bedroom, two bath unit. It retains all the old charm one could hope for (limestone walls, large fireplace, exposed wood beams) with all the modern conveniences (air conditioning, dishwasher, washer, dryer, etc.) The kitchen is very well equipped.
The property has to be seen to be appreciated. Over 60 acres, much of it forested, is really beautiful. The rose gardens, the lavender garden, and the herb gardens are outstanding. Our outdoor eating area was really nice with table and chairs as well as two chaise lounges. The pool area is very comfortable and private with lots of chaise lounges. It was a welcome diversion after a day of touring around this beautiful part of France.

“A magical and restful retreat”

We returned to Le Maine following our holiday in 2014 - and we were not disappointed!
Catherine and Maxence greeted us like old friends and the gite was still as impeccable as we remembered - it felt like home from home.
The furnishings and kitchen appliances and equipment are truly outstanding- the finish is of a very high standard - and the pool and area are truly relaxing - it was hard work to tear ourselves away from the property to explore again the Dordogne region.
Le Maine is so peaceful and relaxing, an excellent place to unwind and enjoy our family holiday.
It really was a sad time when the end of our holiday arrived, and we had to say goodbye - but we will always be grateful to both Catherine and Maxence for allowing us to "share" their home with us - including Zebulon (the donkey), Rothschild (the sheep) and their two cats - Bibi and Josephine.

“Beautiful house”

We had a wonderful stay at La Maine and Catherine and Maxence were so very friendly and helpful with places to visit and directions, restaurant recommendations etc. The house is beautifully designed and decorated and everything is of a very high quality. It was so nice to have the welcome pack of walnut bread, goats cheese, wine and strawberries. There is a bakery that we walked to in ten minutes and a general store.. We had a few days of sunshine and really appreciated the pool which was kept very clean with comfortable sun loungers.

There is a pizzeria at le change for takeout or sit in, but Periguex is only 20 minutes away and we had a lovely lunch at la Ferme Saint louis. We canoed from Montignac but I recommend reservation as there were none available the day we went and had to return the next day. The one over the bridge on the right was very good and cheaper than the one on the left of the bridge - as you drive over.

I would definitely recommend this beautiful holiday rental for visiting the dordogne.

“Best experience ever in France!”

This is the best experience we've ever had of renting in France!

Maxence & Catherine were the perfect hosts. They made a point of greeting us warmly - and of saying goodbye when, sadly, we had to leave! The explanation of the accommodation was excellent and we appreciated the welcome gifts very much.

The accommodation was perfect in every way and we can't wait to book the whole property for ourselves and our family in a couple of years' time.

This is the best part of the Dordogne - far from the busiest areas yet they are still easily reachable. After many Dordogne holidays, we enjoyed experiencing more Authentic French Life in these rural parts! We were given great guidance by Maxence & Catherine about the places to visit!

Thoroughly recommended to fellow discerning travelers!!!

“An oasis in 'la France profonde'”

We arrived well after dark from Bordeaux airport (nightmare car delivery at Europcar) but Maxence and Catherine were on hand to greet us as we stepped out of the car. That set the tone for the holiday. A bottle of wine, cheese, bread and fruit were waiting in the kitchen and we settled down for a wonderful week (my wife, myself, our 22-year-old daughter and 18-year-old son). Truth be told, we were lazy guests, a little stupefied by the heat -- but we had some wonderful lunches in the nearby villages, plus a canoe trip down the Dordogne river, and finished most days with a swim (plus losing again to my son at table tennis!). Dinner was usually at home, prepared in a kitchen that has everything. The upstairs bedroom? Our kids could hardly believe their luck. It is remarkable. This was exactly the holiday we were hoping for, and, as someone who lived in France many, many years ago, it reminded me of what an exceptional blessing the French countryside is.

“What a beautiful place.”
Reviewed June 25, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This was our first holiday with our baby girl (18 mths) and we drove!! And what a beautiful surprise when we arrived. Had a lovely welcome from Catherine and Maxence and we were not even in the accommodation. We where welcomed with the most lovely tasting strawberries, bread, milk, cheese and red wine! What a start. The accommodation was very well presented and high chair and cot were ready. The property had wifi which worked well on laptop. There was not a DVD player but watched the ones I bought with me on my laptop as from previous experience, there tend to be 2/3 English speaking channels on the TV.
I have not added any photos because the ones on the site are great and better in real life. We had the swimming pool to ourselves and had plenty of walks in the forest.
I was very sad to be leaving.
The general area of where we were situated was okay for travelling. We visited Chateau de Hautefort which is fairly close and a must to visit and also Rocamadour which was about 2 hrs away. Closest big supermarket was approx 10 miles away on the road towards Perigueux. There also was one in Hautefort.

We are traveling with our adult daughter and her partner so we wanted a lovely place with 2 separate bedrooms and bathrooms,in the countryside, very near a village, and with a pool terrace and garden.Rather a lot to ask for but we have found it here.Often when I read the accommodation is in a converted barn I hear warning bells. Not so here. Our place is to the side of the Chateau renovated with great care with very modern kitchen and open fire and yet it is seamlessly part of the whole. We have complete privacy, and the terrace looks out to garden and the woods.Madame Catherine is a fine gardener and roses are everywhere. The property is immaculate. So we are very happy to be here and enjoyed her thoughtful provisions of strawberries and cheese and Maxence's map marked up with interesting places to go. You can trust the site's pictures,if anything this place is more beautiful and certainly larger than it looks.Wifi is strong,no problems at all.I particularly like all the windows and doors leading out to the garden and terrace. All in all a lot of thought ,expense and effort has gone into this property.
