“Le Maine”
Reviewed November 28, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

My Husband and I spent 8 nights at this quintessential piece of french countryside paradise. The apartment was charming with a fireplace for added ambience. Each room was spacious and thoughtfully planned. Some of the vrbos we stayed in during our 3 month european adventure did not live up to the photos and description, however Le Maine exceeded them. Catherine et Maxence were wonderful hosts! Maxence helped us many times when we asked about getting to and from various sites in the area and Catherine set up a fantastic cooking course with a wonderful chef right there in our apartment. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property and truly enjoy the "art de vivre"!

“Best place in Dordogne!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

This was my second visit with my family and another exceptional holiday. What a place! First of all I would like to say a massive thank you to Maxence and Cathrine for being so welcoming. If you want to relax and enjoy being outside then this is the perfect place, the scenery on the estate and the gardens is beautiful. It is about a ten minute walk to the boulangerie or butchers and local cafe/bar. At the cottage there are bikes to use, a lovely pool and table tennis. As a family we all loved to see the animals, Zebulon the donkey, Rothschild the sheep, Bibi the cat and the new little kitten Josephine. We loved the way in the morning you can hear Zebulon braying, its a lovely sound! We will be returning and are missing it deeply. This place is great to recomend to anybody who wants to relax and unwind. I would rate this 5 star as it the best place in Perigeaux!

“This is paradise!”
Reviewed October 15, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Are you looking for lots of possible activiteis and yet peace and quiet, a beautiful place to stay, not only inside the house, but also the domain and the surroundings? This is the place to go!
Very authentic, very relaxing. You wil feel instantly at home. The proprietors are the angels making this possible. They also have a superb sense for privacy and if you like they will offer you a great range range of things interesting for you to visit or do while staying there. For children and I suppose most adults too, the pool, the sheep, the donkey and the cat in the gardens are so enjoyable. If you like you can also cycle in the environment. In one word: Paradise. What are you waiting for?

“Its oh so quiet.....”
Reviewed September 8, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

This was our second stay having stayed for a week in 2011, this year was 2 weeks and we had the best holiday. Le Maine will give you peace, calm and quiet in the most beautiful landscape. The garden of the Maison is surrounded by trees, you can sit and watch the donkey, the bats of an evening, use the bbq and enjoy nothing but the sound of the breeze in the trees. The weather was hot and we ate outdoors for most meals. The estate is meadows and grass and woodland, the pool is set away from the house and our children loved playing in it (age 11 and 13). There are bikes to use and table tennis, a cat and kitten and sheep to play with and feed. The Maison is very well equipped and very clean decorated in 'french chic' style, if you are used to modern it takes a while to adjust to your environment but after a few days away from the busyness of the UK you really 'get it' its just so lovely! The village, with a river running through it has a baker, butcher and cafe/bar and a weekly market which we loved pottering around, our son got on his bike every morning to get fresh croissants, its a very safe place. Maxence and Catherine are the perfect welcoming hosts, there if you want advice or help but not there if you want to be left alone, they pitch it just right. There are plenty of places to visit and the countryside around the area is stunning we visited several chateaux and kayaked. But for us we loved the time we had in Le Maine and were very reluctant to leave.

“splendid Holidays”
Reviewed April 10, 2012 for a stay in June 2011

This was our second time at La Maison de Marc in Le Maine. We stayed 2 weeks in a row and really enjoyed each and every single day. We loved to sit in the wonderful, completely privat backyard for breakfast, jumped into the pool during daytime and sat in front of the house in the afternoon to finish off the evening with a nice glas of wine. The entire house is beautifully furnished with a big fireplace in the living room, two cosy bedrooms, a very well stuffed kitchen and a lovely bath with separate toilet. La Maison at Le Maine is just perfect to relax and a good starting point for trips to countless picturesque villages, lovely markets, prehistoric places, canoeing on rivers, bikeriding..... The hosts Caherine and Maxence made us feel at home immediately and when asked always provided us with lots of helpful information for a perfect holday. Thank you! We will definitely come back!

“A perfect choice for your vacation in the Dordogne region”
Reviewed April 3, 2012 for a stay in August 2011

We have stayed in Le Maine for two years in a row and have already booked to return this summer. We have always enjoyed our stay there. Two more accommodating hosts in Catherine and Maxence would be hard to find. We have two young children who loved making friends with the animals in Le Maine (Zebulon the donkey, Rothschild the sheep, and the cats who came to visit our cottage). We have enjoyed good weather during our stays and the relaxing by the pool allowed us to unwind. The cottages are equipped with all mod cons and are equipped to the highest spec and taste. The grounds of Le Maine are kept immaculate and our son enjoyed exploring the woods at the back of the cottage.

“A Dream of Beauty and Ease”

What can we say that hasn’t been said by the other guests? We concur with all the positive comments posted at vrbo. We have rented houses many times over many years in all regions of France and the US and this was absolutely the best of them in every way. We always hope for the best, but aren’t surprised when the best isn’t quite what we get. This time we got it! During our stay, we felt more like house guests than ‘tenants’. Upon arrival we found wine, bread, cheese, and strawberries to welcome us. The house was spotless. It and the other unit I observed (for possible future use by friends or family) were exquisitely renovated by Maxence and Catherine, and it was apparent that they were both very talented and artistic as well as warm and welcoming hosts who were helpful in every way they could be. Maxence even shared his secrets for buying (at the local market) and preparing magret de canard! Our first try wasn’t bad. Living in Maison de Marc for eight days was simply wonderful. The house was charming and chic. The house, bathroom and kitchen’s renovation was well designed and executed -- perfectly combining historic rustic features and modern convenience. The little garden was private, tranquil-- a great place for reading, drinks and our light evening supper. The internet worked perfectly (a necessity for us). We even became fond of the ‘calls’ of Zebulon the resident donkey. Having bikes at the ready made it easy for us to have a nice bike ride on some mornings, ride to the local boulangerie, or to the market on Friday. There were plenty of safe roads on which to ride as well. We loved the area. Having rented a house on the Fenelon estate south of the Dordogne several years ago, we explored closer to Cubjac this time. Perigueux market was fun and lunches at L’Essential and Ferme St. Louis were excellent. The new Vesuna Gallo Roman Museum that houses a Roman villa is the best of that period we have seen. Further afield we enjoyed the Jardins du Manoir d’Eyrignac and the lovely lunch we had on the terrace there. The local Bergerac rose was terrific on the unseasonably hot days of late September . Communications with Catherine via email were prompt and payment made with ease via Paypal (as opposed to the wire transfer method that requires more cost and a trip to a bank). The listing and photos were very accurate. Being there is even better. Everyone seems to say “we will return”. We have made plans to return in September 2012!
