So I pulled a number of restaurants from TripAdvisor to try while I was in Perigueux, and this was the best of the lot. Amazing food, wonderful service, a lovely place to sit and enjoy a lovely meal. The food was excellent; thoughtful, well prepared and well presented. The owner, who very patiently let me sit around and wait the half hour until they opened for lunch, I had no reservation, spoke excellent English, much better than my French, and brought me a wonderful selection of entree, plat, and desert, with a marvelous dry white wine to accompany. altogether, one of the top 5 meals I had in France.

We had a late lunch on the place. The three course 'menu' was lamb for me and beef for my husband. The cold rose that went with both was refreshing on a hot day. The food was good, the setting delightful, the service friendly.

We decided to listen to the reviews on 'trip advisor' and we're so glad we did!

The head waitress was extremely friendly explaining to us that as we dido have a reservation, there would be short delay between us sitting down and our order been taken. This pleased us as we felt that the food was being cooked to order rather than just thrown together when a customer walked in. We were shown to our table that was at the side of a pretty square. Our drinks order was taken. The wine list is excellent. We had scallops to start with a chorizo and parmesan salad. The flavours were amazing and everything was cooked to perfection. This made us look forward to the mains, my partner had lamb and I had monkfish both were absolutely amazing. The lamb melted in the mouth and the fish was still moist. We didn't have a dessert but the ones we saw being taken to other tables looked fab. If we ever pass by here again we will definitely be stopping again, as you know the menu will change to what ever is at its freshiest and in season. Beautiful food, good value, friendly attentive staff. We cannot praise the place high enough.

We had intended to go back to the Grain de Sel but it didn't look up and running after the annual congee so we fell back on this old favourite We have never been disappointed with the quality, market freshness and balance of flavours. This last time we found the breast of guinea fowl was moist and succulent with cepes. This came with wine, crispy goat cheese fritters on a correct salad for starter and a home made fruit tart confection all for 17E.
The service is always warm and helpful and if this last time (market day) it was slow, it has to be seen as a measure of the establishment's popularity.
