“An excellent stay”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

My wife and I have spent several stays here over the years. The Moulin is a favorite of ours. the restaurant is excellent, the sounds of the mill stream through the window at night, the friendliness of the staff, al, will keep us coming back

Room Tip: Look for one too the east on the front.

Three of us stayed here for a couple of nights in June and loved it. The ivy-covered old mill site, water running everywhere, beautiful grounds - it was charming. Both of our rooms were the same - toilet in a separate room from the tub/shower/sink; comfy double bed, dresser, table and chair. Older style furniture, gorgeous old window with shutters and blackout curtain looking out on the grounds.

Our rooms didn't have A/C, but June was so wet and cold it didn't matter. Wi-fi did work in our rooms, and was an unexpected bonus. I did see others in the lobby, so apparently it doesn't work everywhere. The petite dejeuner was about what you'd expect for 8€ - but the croissants and chocolatines were fresh, the confitures were Bonne Maman, and the orange juice tasty if not fresh squeezed. Coffee was plentiful and madame had her choice of teas. And the breakfast room is spacious and lovely, can only imagine what it would be like in sunny warm weather.

Only drawback for me in the room was the garish flourescent light in the salle de bain that crackled to life when you hit the switch. And the walls could use some art.

We made the mistake of first turning in to the restaurant - the entrance to the hotel parking is actually across the street on the river side of the road, look for the sign.

Had dinner both nights in the attached restaurant, very good, will do a separate review.

Room Tip: Don't know where the A/C rooms might be, but the rooms facing the parking on the first floor get...

Very nice small friendly hotel to stay at. Agnes / Annick very helpful. Rooms very nice in a really picturesque setting. Wouldn't recommend eating there - the associated Restaurant is pricey and the waiter we found rather arrogant. If you want a good value-for-money restaurant, try Mentalo round the corner (best pizza we've had in France).

This hotel beats the socks off all the others in Les Eyzies. It is a quaint old building located down along the stream, with an old mill wheel still turning. Very romantic setting! The rooms tend to be small, but #16 and #20 are very comfortable, and offer cross-venting windows. More and more of the rooms are air-conditioned (#20 was, this time). Lack of an elevator can be a problem if you are elderly or handicapped, but no problem for the vigorous. Wifi can be iffy in some rooms, but is excellent in the comfortable lobby. The attached restaurant is excellent; be sure to reserve for dinner at least one night. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful and remember you from year to year. Le Moulin de la Beune is the place to stay in Les Eyzies!

Room Tip: We especially like like #16 and #20.

We did not stay at this hotel but had dinner twice in their restaurant, which was excellent. There is no shortage of hotels or restaurants in this tiny town so the fact that we had dinner there twice in 6 nights says a lot. The food was superb; the staff is wonderful, very accommodating, helpful with our choices of wine and did NOT suggest the most expensive wine in our category. They were willing to modify the menu a bit for our second visit, after I had eaten all the foie and other rich appetizers I could stand, and let me order a salad, which was not on the menu. They also, hearing us exclaim in joy hearing that one of the little desserts of the 4 included in their dessert tasting plate was chocolate soufflé, they made us a gift of a full-sized chocolate soufflé.

Having booked more than 1 month in advance, we were surprise to have received the worst room in the place. It may have been because we were only staying one night on our last day of biking in the Dordogne and we were not 55+ like all the other clientele! While the room was clean, it was very small, with a miniature bathtub and no ambiance whatsoever despite the overall quaintness of the rest of the place. We also had an open window to the front entrance and the bridge, which made it difficult to sleep with light and noise. While the rate was less than other inns in town, spend a little more and save yourself the grief!

We ate in the restaurant here on 10th September 2012 and found it to be superb. They offer a set menu option (3 course) starting at €19 per person, which we considered to be excellent value considering the quality of food on offer, which was delicious. We found the staff to be friendly and attentive, if a little slow at times (but it was busy). The setting of the restaurant is attractive and relaxing, as it is located in a former water mill with a small stream surrounding it. I would certainly recommend this restaurant.
