This hotel is very modern and has a nice atmosphere. The rooms are spacious and light. We had a room with a pool view which was lovely, I can imagine the rooms at the front of the hotel (although they had a balcony to sit on) could have been noisy as they looked over roads and a car park. We could open the balcony doors every morning and have a nice view of the pool area and still be private.

The pool area is very nice, with sun loungers and a covered area to sit and read a book or newspaper.

The hotel has a pin code entry system when the desk is not manned which means you can come and go as you please. One night we returned at 3am due to attending a wedding about an hour away!

I would recommend this hotel as it is in a perfect location for sightseeing. The Saturday markets start right outside the front door of the hotel and it is easily accessible if you have a car. Good price too, although I wouldn't bother with the breakfast as there are so many places to grab an authentic bite to eat in the town.

we have just returned from a three night break in bergerac and we stayed at the Hotel de France for two of those nights. we transferred there from Hotel du Commerce after one night. the Hotel de France is a lovely little hotel, absolutely spotless, and in excellent decorative order. the rooms are quite small, but they are more than adequate, with fresh pleasing decor, modern bathrooms, and very comfortable beds. the breakfast was good, offering cereals, yoghurts, fresh breads and croissants, butter, jams, fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice and choice of hot drinks. the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. we transferred there from the Hotel du Commerce [see my review for that hotel] as Hotel de France was clearly a far superior hotel for very little extra cost. if cleanliness, service and comfort are important for you, then look no further than this hotel.

We stopped just one night, en route from visiting friends in the Dordogne. The hotel was easy to find, in the main square. The entrance hall/reception area is stylish, with a really customer-focussed English-speaking receptionist, who then turned out to also be barmaid as well. So helpful.
We chose a room facing the rear, because it overlooked the swimming pool, rather than the square. The room, like the hotel, looked recently re-decorated, and was well equipped. The pool virtually filled the rear garden/patio area, and was surrounded by quality (ie, not-the-normal-plastic) furniture, so it was very relaxing and a great suntrap. On a hot day, the 2 cool beers delivered by our friendly receptionist were most welcome. Breakfast was continental in style, but perfectly ok.
As for Bergerac itself, after seeing so many wonderful medieval villages in the Dordogne, this town was a little disappointing. It was a Monday, when apparently several evening restaurants close, but it lacked the character of many of its smaller neighbours.

Hotel de France is an excellent choice. While small, the staff is great, the owner, Antoine, goes out of his way to assist in any manner, and the pool is delicious in the heat of the day.
Centrally located and within walking distance of the train station, it is convenient, clean, well run, and generally a great place to relax from a hectic travel day. If possible request the rooms overlooking the pool.
Additionally, they serve exceptionally good coffee in the morning! We loved both Antoine and Hotel de France.
