Ok,this is not the best hotel in Biarritz but it is cheap and in the heart off the action, two mins walk from main beach and one min from main shopping area and beside the market and cafes and bars,we stayed in an annex away from the main building and it was fine, clean and really good value for its location, biarritz is not a cheap place to visit and if you want luxury you must pay for it in this town,if you want a cheap room in a good area I would recommend the Anjou

Okay, so let me start by saying AVOID this hotel at all costs!

I booked the Hotel Anjou for myself and 3 friends in September 2013 for a 4 nights. We should have been put off by the service we got on the phone while trying to make the original booking. It was horrible, but I let it go and put it down to “cultural differences”.

So when we arrived in Biarritz, very tired having travelled across France for a few days we wanted to get to our hotel and rest. We arrived at lunch time (as we had advised in our initial call). From the outside the hotel its self looks old and run down but in its defence the building is in keeping with the overall architecture and design in the town. When we got to reception there was nobody there, we rang the bell and even went behind the reception desk to knock on the office. We rang the number we had for the hotel from our mobile and that rang out (while the phone in the hotel itself did not ring). Eventually after about an hour a man (Who I assumed is the owner) arrived, no apology, not welcome…. It was almost like we were the inconvenience in his hotel. He showed us to our room, which was another drama. We had book a room for 4 people, 1 couple and 2 singles, but the room was 2 single beds, we explained this to him and his just dismissed us saying that’s all they had. At this stage we were just tired and happy to have a room.

At this stage there were 5 of us, as one of our friends was with us, (he was waiting the arrival of other friends who he was staying with in another hotel). The man kept arguing that the room was only booked for “4 persons” and we had to pay extra (Despite there being no bed for a 5th person). We explained he was staying elsewhere and is only waiting with us (of course explaining this took another half an hour). He insisted we give him the name and number of our friends hotel and their book details so he could confirm their booking…. After some protest we gave him the details just to get rid of him and being our trip. I would have happily walked out of the hotel at this point and got a room elsewhere only he charged our cards upon arrival before any of this unfolded. He rang the other hotel and confirmed the booking I told him about. Again, no apology or thank you, just arrogance.

Finally he was gone… e went out that night and enjoyed ourselves in Biarritz, the town is lovely and there is a great buzz and chilled out atmosphere in the town. This is one of my favourite places in the world tbh! So we went back to the hotel in the early hours of the morning to sleep.

We rose about 8:30am as we wanted to get breakfast before the surf was up! At about 9am there was a banging on our door, not a gentle knocking a BANGING, it was our old pal the owner again… He was banging banging banging, I opened the door a jar a bit and he tried to come in, I stopped him as I was in my boxers, my girlfriend was in her underwear. Another lad asleep in the bed and the other girl in the middle of a shower… He said he wanted to come in because there was 5 people in the room, I told him there were only 4 people (as agreed) and he kept insisting there were 5, after a few minutes my girlfriend wrapped up, I let him stand in side to examine the room, it was at this point he tried to enter the bathroom, I had told him several times our female friend was having a shower he insisted there were 2 more people in the bathroom… I refused to let him go into the shower. About 10 minutes later when my friend came out of the bathroom, he stormed by her and checked the bathroom himself. Upon seeing there was no mythical 5th person he stormed out of the room, again no apology and no acknowledgement of his wrong doing….

He didn’t bother us again for the weekend but this 24 hour period was enough to put me off this hotel FOREVER!

The hotel itself is very basic, the rooms are old and dingy. I don’t want to be unfair here, The room were clean, but the feel of the hotel made it seem dirty.

The only reason we chose it was for the location and the price (which isn’t that great). Anyway, like I said avoid this place. I certainly wont be back EVER agin!

We stayed at this hotel for a week in July 2013. The room and the bathroom were correct and newly refreshed. The location was great, in the heart of the town and close to the beach BUT the room opened onto the street and was horribly noisy. Moreover, it was extremely warm at this moment and there was NO air conditionning and NO ventilator either. In addition, we were very desapointed by the breakfast : we got croissants, bread and jams every morning so it was very repetitive. To sum up, I wouldn't recommand this hotel to other people.

Room Tip: Ask a room looking onto the backyard.

I've stayed in this hotel for the last 4 years during the first week of September. We've always stayed in one of the apartments adjacent to the hotel itself. If you plan to spend most of your time out of the hotel then this is perfect for you. It is very basic inside but the location is fantastic and is very affordable considering

I stayed in this hotel for the fourth time from 13th-15th September as a group of four people. The owner of the hotel was extremely rude to us immediately upon arrival and barged in to our room on a number of occasions as he believed that there were more than four people sleeping in our room (which there were not). He even tried to walk in on one of the girls in the shower as he thought someone was hiding in the bathroom! I have never been treated so badly, and his attitude was completely unprofessional. The hotel is basic at best, but I was previously willing to overlook this due to the decent room rates and handy location. After this experience I would not return to this hotel, nor would I recommend anyone to stay here due to the unprofessional manner in which they dealt with us.

We arranged to stop there because of its top reviews for service. However arrived and agreed to change to a ground floor room as it had wheelchair access. Yet hotel has six stairs to get to the wheel chair friendly room. Then no disable parking at all -several spaces outside but told we could park in pubic car park underground and 10 minutes walk away. GREAT for disabled.

Then promised spot for the following day if guests left. then told by management (i.e. reneged on their promise) they wouldn't reserve one. So overall a good location, a fair room but hotel is not suited to elderly or disabled and don't rely on the management and staff helping out - THEY WONT

Room Tip: Due to management the other good points don't compensate for the bad

We stayed for one night following a trek on the Camino. The staff were lovely from start to finish. We got an early check in and they were happy to keep our bags until our late flight home. The room was quite small but the twin and queen beds and linen were good. The bathroom would have been too small for a large man to manage but we were okay. The shower stall (no tub) was oversize and the water temperature and pressure were excellent. Two floor to ceiling windows opened out onto a small balcony overlooking the road, but there were only sheer curtains so it was very bright in the morning. There was construction going on nearby and noisy party goers later at night, but the hotel is in an excellent location at the end of town and minutes from beaches. Our room had wifi but no kettle or mini fridge. The man in the breakfast room downstairs was happy to give us hot water and milk to bring to the room for our morning tea.

Room Tip: Might be better to ask for a room facing the back to escape the construction noise and party-goers...
