We stayed with a friend in St Charles neighbourhood in Biarritz and on our first day were introduced to Paul who owns the Comptoir des Gourmets delicatessen and cafe in the village square. Here you can buy all sorts of gourmet foods, wine, meats and cheeses. Paul now makes lunch on a daily basis which you eat in the deli. Great atmosphere and such a lovely and helpful owner who speaks English and French fluently. Most of the produce is sourced or made locally and is fresh and typically French, lunch is very reasonably priced and varies a little dependant on what Paul cooks. Would highly recommend a visit if not to eat a home cooked lunch at a very reasonable price to buy the local produce. Paul is very knowledgable and sociable and incredible helpful. Would highly recommend a visit. You can get to St Charles on the free bus which takes you all round Biarritz make sure you get on the St Charles bus and not the city bus. The city bus Is also free and you can sit and go round the centre of Biarittz. Once we found out about it we used both buses on a daily basis.
