“Good budget hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2013

We stayed for 2 nights. Good location. Easy walks to cliffs or town and bus routes for Airport or Bayonne station. Helpful and friendly staff. Clean room. We were on 2nd floor but no lift as an old building. Nice breakfast with cereals, croissant and baguette. On a nice avenue.

We stayed at Hotel Gardenia from Wed 22 August until Sunday 26th and enjoyed it very much. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean. Free wifi is also available. The location - while on a quite street - was excellent for everything - beaches, bars and restaurants and shopping. The bus stop into St Jean de Luz was also just around the corner.

It's not luxury accommodation - but then you aren't paying 'luxury' money. It was however certainly very comfortable and i would certainly recommend it for a stay in Biarritz.

Room Tip: We stayed in room one which was spacious enough for our needs with a good-sized bathroom

By no means was this place luxurious. It was the cheapest thing I could find. The room was very small, the bathroom even tinier, but the location was great, walking distance to everything, close to public transport (bus stop) and more importantly it was CLEAN and the street QUIET. Our room was on the street side, there was no air con so we slept with the windows open and this wasn't a problem at all. My husband and I agreed that it absolutely served our purposes and we didn't need anything more than a place to crash after a day at the beach or scooting to St Jean de Luz!

The only thing that was mildly annoying was on our last day we left our bags secured in a room at the hotel until it was time to head to our train. When we went to pick them up (before 12 o clock because the French are deadly serious about their lunches), I asked to use the bathroom and the woman said the toilets were all in the guest rooms and there wasn't one that I could use........seriously??? I just spent 4 days here, lady, and you won't let me pee before I leave?

PS. There's a bakery at the end of the street that had the most delicious pastries I've ever eaten in my life.

We stayed at the Gardenia and had a very pleasant stay here,my mother was especially pleased as she has had two knee operations, and did'nt have to do stair, and was given the ground floor flat with the courtyard.Everyone was friendly and helpful, and our rooms were cleaned spotlessly every day.
Hey,the rooms are a bit small, but why would you want to be in the rooms other than to sleep, with the surf and sun on the Cote De Basque beach a five minute walk away, and other beaches fifteen minutes away.

Room Tip: try and get the groundfloor flat with the little courtyard.

Stayed here for a rugby weekend recently. It isn't luxurious, but then we only paid about 60 euro a night. It is good value for it is. A little dated, but clean and comfortable. Good location, close to centre of town and all you would need. Found the couple who run it helpful and friendly enough. We had booked for three nights, but only wanted to stay for two in the end as our flight was changed and we were flying out of Bilbao instead. This wasn't a problem and we weren't charged for the 3rd night. We had the breakfast one morning, but didn't bother on the other morning as it is pretty basic and not really worth the 7 euro. On the whole a good experience and would use again for a similar occasion

Stayed here for a few nights and found the hotel totally functional if you are not looking for luxury and just a decent base to sleep. The rooms are basic and a bit dated, but clean and spacious. There is not a lift which might be a problem for some. There are no facilities in this hotel, and really it is a pension, but for the money it is great, as a lot of the accomadation in Biarritz is basic, small, and far more expensive.
We had a comfort room on the top floor and although it had a sloping ceiling, the bed was big and comfortable and the window closed made the room almost soundproof. However as there was no airconditioning I am not sure how comfortable this hotel would be in hotter summer months. It is located very near both beaches, has plenty of bars and restaurants within 2min walk, and the daily food market is just around the corner.
The reception is not always open so don't rely on that for directions etc., but the staff when there are helpful.
I would recommend this hotel for those on a budget, singles or younger couples who are not fussy and have travelled a bit, so not expecting luxury.

Stayed here in early July - 5 days
. Read your reviews and thought this was my kinda hotel.
Sorry, am going to be the "party pooper" and say hotel experience was not friendly. We arrived tired and on a very hot day. No greeting at the front desk - in fact no speak at all.
Fine.... - to the room - put above reception on first floor facing the street - (so we heard from where we were) gate and (late arrivals) opening till wee hours, noise and street lights right through until 4.30 am. Couldn't close the window as no ceiling fan and very stuffy. Would have left but didn't want to incur a penalty, and other rooms taken.
Big plus - location to markets and beach.
