“Maybe unlucky with the room but would not go back here!”
Reviewed January 7, 2007

We stayed at the Windsor Hotel last October and after booking well in advance, I opted for a room with the " Coutyard" view. They must have got the translation wrong as the courtyard consisted of a side view, looing onto blank wall next door - nearly wrecked my neck to try get a look at the sky from the window!

Our room was tiny, I wouldn't mind this normally as most hotels in Europe are small, but the thing that annoyed my was the fact that it was quite grubby and run-down . The Bathroom was small but at least modern - the best bit about the room was the bathroom!
The main problem I had with the Windsor, however, was the noise from the corridor and adjoining rooms. Not that the clientel was roudy or niosey, it was that the walls were so thin, you could hear everything. Each morning I woke to the the sound of next door taking a shower, however, it was not just a normal shower, the sound was so loud it was like as if a fire brigade were spraying the place with water!
On a good note they did serve breakfast untill 11 and rooms were cleaned each day.
The location also is excellent, right oppsite the Grand Plage and Casino. Also, please note that if you miss breakfast, Cafe Bleu across the road does an excellent continental breakfast for around €9. Here you can relax with a paper and watch the surfers on the beach and the rest of the world go by. I would recommend this as its far more relaxing then eating in the Hotel breakfast room.
If I was returning to Biarritz, the noise and run-down room at the Windsor would deter me from staying there!

Our couple of days in Biarritz could have been a disaster. It rained for much of the first 24 hours we were there, the central squares are being re-paved and it's currently a big mess and on top of that the couple of restaurants that were recommended in guides were shut for holidays. BUT - we'd paid the extra for a room at the front of the hotel - huge double windows that opened, on the 6th floor so we could see past the casino to one side and it didn't matter a bit about the weather. the views over the bay were just magnificent and watching the comings and goings on the promenade and the surfers doing their thing was completely absorbing. The hotel itself is shabby to be honest - it needs a lot of money spent on it. however our room was not expensive, big and comfortable and scrupulously clean even though it was dated. Parking was simple and the location of the hotel on the prom, whether you're at the front or not, is ideal. I think if we'd taken a cheaper room at the back this review might be very different as it is we liked the hotel just fine and that view was memorable.

My family and I visited Biarritz overnight last weekend and were very pleased that we had chosen the Windsor - helpful reception staff, good, clean and well maintained rooms with sea views and superb location for a bargain price of only 75 euros per double room.

Excellent location across the street from the Grand Plage (main beach). Very good value based on the location. Room is fine, but small by US standards, normal by European standards. Parital ocean view. No AC, but being near beach was not needed.
Breakfast was below average if that is important. Staff friendly, internet is available, I would most definitly stay again if I do not want to splurge on the Palais.

Parking is down the street at the Casino - not at the hotel. Your room may not have AC thought the hotel advertises Air Conditioning. You will grow old waiting for the one elevator. The staff was very nice and helpful. Half of your beach view is obstructed by a hideous annex to the Casino. Price is great but I would have spent a few dollars more for a better beach view, AC, and convenient parking had I known their web site more than a little exagerated the hotels virtues.
