Nice classic hotel without the modern gimmicks that make most hotels look the same. A beautiful open lift takes you up. The view of Biarritz is fantastic from here with the ocean on display for those on the west side of the hotel.

I've spent one week in Mercure Biarritz while travelling on business. Since I cannot compare with other hotels in the area, for me it was a nice hotel, with comfortable bed, old-style bathroom (but very nice one) and a good service. Parking space i available (cca. 50m from hotel entrance). The location is good to visit centre of Biarritz or sea.

Excellent location, central without being noisy.I cant stress what a plus point this is for being in the centre of what is a party town. It is an old hotel but that does have the plus point of having old thick walls which helps if you dont want to be kept awake by revellers coming in at 5am and we werent ! Its a busy hotel but the staff are very efficient and helpful. We upgraded our room and although it wasnt five star by any means (or even 4 star !) it was clean and in relatively good condition. We didnt bother with breakfast as it looked crap and expensive but whilst the communal areas were at times very very busy they were always tidy. We were there in height of the summer season and I think one of their busiest weeks and they made it work. Only just ! but they made it work. I think you can be unlucky and get a crap older room - we didnt but if we had I am sure it would have been a very different experience ! Basically it was expensive (due to time of year) but it worked for us I think though that this was due to luck not design !

Room Tip: upgrade from the basic room if possible

Right in the centre of Biarritz, this hotel has a lovely charm about it. The room was nice and I could not find anything wrong about it.
The breakfast was good.
The hotel provided a nice little touch by producing an A4 sheet of paper giving items of news and sports. This was available for quite a few countries.
I would certainly use the hotel again.

Room Tip: Great to use as a base.

If what you are looking for in a Hotel is a great location or fascinating old world Art Deco interiors with charming and helpful (mostly) staff then the Mercure Plaza is for you. If on the other hand what you want is a good sized room with a spotless well appointed bathroom, ample towels, complimentary toiletries and lashings of hot water then you walso will not be dissapointed. If you need free tea and coffee in your room, a good sized flat screen T V and a very comfortable bed then come on in. So far so very good add excellent air conditioning and a wonderful old world charm lift to trundle you between floors and you would think that everything was perfect. But there are a couple of points that let the Plaza down. A very early closing bar in the hands of surly staff and a lock of a proper restaurant. Yes there are bar meals available but what a hotel of this size and quality needs is a full service restaurant. Speaking of food the otherwise perfectly adequate buffet style breakfast does seem to run fairly quickly and never seems to be adequately replenished. However the Plaza well deserves it's 4 out of 5 rating and is well worth a visit if only for those wonderful bathrooms.
