We were lucky enough to be in Bordeaux the week-end of the dedication of the new bridge. We listened to the live music and then watched the fireworks, which ended at about 10:00, at which time we set out in pursuit of dinner with no reservation. Big mistake! Everyone in Bordeaux had the same thought as the fireworks ended. We stopped at 5 or 6 restaurants, none of which could take us. That is when we came upon Chez Jean, who had several open tables on the first floor. We went in with some trepidation, wondering why it wasn't very full. We needn't have worried. The place filled up shortly after that and yet the service was attentive ( the waiters were literally running) and the food was very good. My husband had a duck dish that he thought was very good and I had a breadcrumbed rack of lamb that I enjoyed. My husband also had a lemon meringue parfait that he raved about for dessert. It was an enjoyable meal and I would recommend this restaurant.

A bit worried that this would be tourist food but very pleasantly surprised. Have eaten here in the evening, lovely to sit outside with largely young french diners - and also good ambience for dinner inside. Just before Christmas we sat at a very nice table on the first floor of the restaurant in a small room next to a little fireplace. Very good menu choices - all 4 of us enjoyed our choices, which is a miracle in itself! Waiter was really great, he could speak English perfectly, but we chose to struggle on with our french and he patiently let us even though it could have taken half the time if we had spoken English! Will visit often.

Had a wonderful evening here on Christmas Eve.There was just the two of us.We booked it during the day as places were getting very busy. We had a lovely table upstairs, the Christmas decor and atmosphere was wonderful. The food was excellent and served just with the right waiting time in between courses. The staff were polite, friendly and very helpful, all the waiters spoke English. The lamb was to die for and my husband had the creme brulee to finish,he said it was delicious.Would recommend to anyone wanting a really good restaurant, reasonably priced in Bordeaux.

We had a great evening meal at Chez Jean. The food was lovely and the service was good. There was a large group of us, and the food was served in a timely manner. We sat inside on a large table, but was able to see outside and soak up the atmosphere. The decor was nice and the staff are very friendly.

I would recommend this restaurant and would definitely go again.

First night in Bordeaux and after reading many chalk board menus selected Chez Jean. Good choice, excellent service and food. Even accommodated a request to try their Serrano ham. Lovely full bodied red wine was a great recommendation by the manager. Price fair but not inexpensive.
