When I go to France I want to spend my money on clothes and wine rather than accommodation so I'm always looking for an hotel that is pleasant but not expensive. Ibis Bordeaux Bastide fulfilled these requirements perfectly.
The room was fairly spacious, with non-carpeted floors, somewhat utilitarian but very practical furniture with an open wardrobe and shelf space, desk with chair and a compact bathroom which reminded my husband of a boats washroom with its white moulded plasticness! The shower was however quite big and most importantly hot and powerful. Bed was comfortable but definitely not luxurious with quite a hard mattress. TV had a variety of French, English, spanish and german channels.
The reception staff did not speak English, which could be a problem if you don’t speak French, but were very charming and engaging in charades with my non-french speaking husband.
The location was good – around a 2 minute walk to the regular, cheap and reliable tram to take you into the centre (runs from very early in the morning until 2am so is virtually 24 hrs) or a 15 minute stroll across the beautiful Pont de Pierre and through fairly pleasant surroundings to the centre.
Overall I’d definitely recommend if you’re looking for comfortable, clean, cheap accommodation.More
