“Lovely, cheap, and great location”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

This hotel was perfect, especially for the low price! (50 euro a night for 2 people.) We stayed there one night, and it is perfectly located right in central Bordeaux. Our room was at the top floor, so we had a lovely view of some of the city. Our room was cute and worked perfectly, it wasn't even especially small (compared to a lot of European hotels). The manager was helpful and friendly. Free wifi in the reception area was great. I would definitely stay here again!

My one complaint is that the shower temperature alternated a lot, so if we had stayed when it was very cold that might have been frustrating.

Room Tip: There's no elevator, but our room on the top floor had a great view!

We walked up and got a room straight away for a good price. The room was spacious and clean with a fan. The bathroom delightful. We were missing a towel but had it right away brought to us. The location was convienent and within walking distance of almost everything in bordeaux. The recptionist is lovely and helpful, but you must note that reception closes for a couple of hours between 1 and 5 which is only traditional in france. i felt safe here needed a code to get into the building. The wifi was free in the lobby the passcode is massive but he gives it to you right away if you ask. all in all, it was great value for money not the best hotel ever but is just what you need and a great location.

OK, let's face it, we have stayed in "better" hotels, but what does "better" mean? This small hotel is just a short walking distance away from the river on one side and from the lively Gambetta area on the other side. Such an excellent location! You may have your walk along the river through the city or you may take the other direction and mingle with the crowds in numerous eateries in Gambetta. Bus, tram, boat - all at your disposal nearby. The hotel itself looks more like a hostel, with shared toilets in the corridors, but paying 10 euros more, we had a double room with our own shower and toilet. We met 2 staff who were very friendly and interested to hear our impressions. If you are a budget traveller in Bordeaux, Choiseul is an ideal accommodation because you get the privacy of a hotel with price of a hostel :)

Room Tip: Choose a room with en suite bathroom.

I was over for one night for a rugby match and found this place to be a pleasant surprise. The room was nice and clean with a comfortable bed, tv and wash basin. Although their is only one set of toilets on each floor, they were cleaned to a high standard. There is one shower (on the top floor) which again was good and clean. It's a little over 5 mins walk from Quinqoces tram stop.

Room Tip: Make sure to ring ahead! The reception isn't always manned but if you ring ahead to confirm your...

I was abducted outside this hotel in early September after a one night stay. I was waiting for a taxi at 4AM to take me to the airport. I was told to wait outside by the hotel manager who had reserved the taxi, since the hotel was closed at that hour. A man pulled up who impersonated a taxi driver. He said he was taking me to the airport, but he took me to the woods and attempted to rape me. The Bordeaux police and the American Embassy are investigating the crime. Do not get into a taxi near this hotel alone, and make sure you ask to see the driver's credentials.

Cute, cosy room with a window into a courtyard. The shared toilet was clean and rarely occupied (though the shower could use a good scrub). The location is absolutely perfect - just a few steps from the main streets and the river. Good value for money.

Stayed at the Choiseul Hotel for 2 nights in a 1 person room with a twin bed. The hotel was in a convenient location, walking distance to the botanic garden and quinconces, about a 10 minute walk to the cathedral and bourse. The room was very basic - window overlooking the street, a desk, television and a washbasin in a little cupboard in the corner of the room. The shower was upstairs and toilet down the hall. Have to admit that neither were 'sparkling' clean feeling and I decided not to shower at that hotel but hold off until the next stop. I was travelling as a backpacker on this trip so I was looking for nothing more than a clean bed to sleep in, which I definitely got. Hotel staff was friendly though the front desk is not open 24-7 so double check that they'll be there at your arrival time when you make your reservation. Wifi is available only in the reception area so access is also limited. I left the hotel before breakfast started each morning but it is available.
