“Cosy hotel in an excellent location”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

This hotel is perfect when you look for a cosy/romantic hotel in a classic style. The rooms are decorated with the classical Bordeaux stone and therefore gives a very authentic feel. This is combined with a modern bathroom in wood.

You are in a perfect place to visit the ancient city of Bordeaux, as it is near Place Gambetta and a side street of Cours de l'Intendance, the Central street to the Place de la Comédie. The advantage of this location in a small street is that you don't have any street noise, a side effect then is that you can't reach it by car but only by public transport or a taxi at the nearby Place Gambetta.

Some down points for the breakfast (from 7am to 11am!) which is quite basic and the bathroom which is small.

Good points for the friendly staff which is always helpful and in a good mood. Cleaning is perfect.

Overall, I would definitely choose this hotel again because you get a very stylish hotel room at an excellent location to discover Bordeaux.

Dear JochenD140,

Thank you very much for your review about our hotel. We are happy to read that you liked your stay at La Tour Intendance.

The hotel La Tour Intendance is indeed perfectly located in the heart of the historical center.

We agree that the stone walls give a warm and authentic feel to the rooms. As for the space in the rooms, we try to do our best in the ancient buildings of Bordeaux which are not very spacious.

As for our staff, we always try to give the best service so thank you for your comment.

We hope to see you back soon at the hotel La Tour Intendance.

Best regards

Great location next to Place Gambetta and the Golden Triangle. Stayed in the annex just a few metres round the corner from the main building. Room was modest in size, but perfectly acceptable, clean and well appointed with good aircon, important with temperatures in the 30'sC. Staff were very helpful. We had booked through Expedia just an hour before arriving having moved out of an unacceptable apartment elsewhere in the city. When we arrived the Expedia booking had not come through to the hotel, but the Reception staff said 'no problem', showed us to our room and said they would sort things with Expedia. Ten minutes later they called to say everything was OK. Very pleasant breakfast room with good continental breakfast available right through to 11am, expensive at 12 euros, but when taken with reasonable room rate was OK. Bakery round the corner if you prefer.

A hotel with character.
Location was perfect, down a quiet narrow street just off Gambetta and hence easy access with public transport from train or plane. Very central, virtually all within walking distance.
Narrow gorgeous stone stairs to a great room: curved with bare (warm pale orange colour) stones and blue deep piled carpet. Lift available.
Modest breakfast buffet.
Generally helpful staff. We nearly got locked out (returning after an evening city tour), so remember to ask for the door code if you may be late back. Alternatively, the staff could always offer it ?
Would happily stay again.

Room Tip: Room 22: good sized on the third floor.

For the price we paid (126€ per night) Our room although clean was very small & very basic. The bathroom was directly next to the bed and was also very small and basic.

The breakfast was 12€ each so we decided to give it a miss & opted for 0.99c croissants from the patisserie shop on corner therefore cannot provide feedback on this however walking past guests eating breakfast it looked lovely & plentiful.

The best thing about this hotel is the excellent, central location as it is only seconds walk away to the main square which connects to so many fantastic restaurants, shops & cafes so is perfect for travelers on foot wanting to hit the pavement to see Bordeaux.

The staff on front desk were friendly and courteous & spoke good English.

Please note that this hotel does not have a car park or car / street access so if you have a car & lots of heavy luggage this may not be the hotel for you. Our sat nav didn't indicate this and we frustratedly drove around aimlessly for about 20 minutes before finding (paid) street parking about 1km and walking there to try & figure out what to do before going back to car to get our luggage.

If you have a car there is no direct parking and the closet car park is about 5 mins walk to hotel. The hotel has a special arrangement with the car park & charges 10€ per 24 hours so make sure you take a hotel card with you as proof as usual parking is 19€ per day.

All in all not a bad little hotel - Bottom line, we would stay here again.

We stayed here for three nights in May 2012. This hotel is very conveniently located. A short 150 meters from the airport bus stop on place Gambetta, on the edge of the old town but in a quiet alley, away from the bustle. Our room was great with lots of daylight, old stone walls and a "maritime" feel to it. Good double bed and clean, well appointed bathroom.
Downstairs at reception there is a very nice breakfast area. The family owners are very friendly and helpfull. Recommendable!

The hotel is small and has an annex in the next street. Good service and very friendly reception.
The room was very small but for a business trip big enough. A nice breakfast is served every morning. The location of the hotel its self and the annex is great. Near to all the great places to visit, yet very quiet.
Not traffic in the street which means no taxi's either. But you can find them nearby.

We had a lunch at le Bistro du Musee (37, place Pey-Berland), very nice place.

If you want to take some foie gras home then go to Comtesse du Barry!

Bordeaux has a great and very beautiful city centre, good public transport a lot of nice restaurants.
