“Very simple clean hotel but dangerous”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2009

This hotel was booked for me as part of a conference in Bordeaux. My room was on the fifth top floor, very basic, but clean. Bathroom a bit smelly. Very hot right under the roof. Fan provided. Access to this very narrow hotel, squashed between two other buildings, was by keypad and key, to be obtained around the corner from the sister hotel. Service was non-existant. Breakfast basic and not very specially presented. My main problem was that there was no fire escape of any kind! In case of fire, guests were asked to stay in the room and keep the door wet until rescue arrived! Escape through the window was impossible as there was only a small porthole opening to the outside world. Only other exit in very small lift or down the stairs. Its position is perfect right opposite the theatre in the middle of town. May be a room on a lower floor would be less dangerous as there were opening windows onto very tiny French balconies at least.

We stayed there for two nights. Can't complain about the location--a short walk to the tourist office and the Quinconces, lots of nice restaurants and cafes nearby. Our room faced the street so it was a bit noisy, though we had a nice view of the Grand Theatre.

The room itself was very basic--a small room with a shower that didn't hang on the wall properly (but we haven't yet encountered a two-star hotel with a shower that works properly--c'est la vie as the French say). The walls were paper-thin. But all in all a nice place to stay with friendly staff.

Excellent location for trams, shops and restaurants as well as the airport bus. For the price couldn't be better. Register at the Hotel de Quatre Soeurs (just south of the Tourist Office) and get the keys there.

Right in the Centre of Toulouse so great for base for strolling around the city. Plenty of great restaurants within a 10 minute walk. The hotel is decorated in a boudoir style (lots of red and black). We had a deluxe room which was still quite small and a bit quirky. No full length hanging space in the cupboard. However, the service was very friendly and I would recommend this hotel. It is worth noting that you cannot drive up to the front door of the hotel and there is no door man. So if you have lots of heavy luggage you will need to walk to reception to get someone to help you with your bags.

I stayed at the Hotel de la Opera in June 2004 for nine days and found it a great place to stay. The hotel is small and clean and set back off the street. The rooms are charming and some look out on the Opera House itself. It is very central and two minutes walk to the tram terminus and the river front and all the lovely french shops one could ever want to browse. The hotel does a simple continental breakfast in a newly refurbished breakfast room and the tarif is very reasonable. There is a lift to all floors and the staff were very friendly. Some English is spoken by the owners. All in all I would say this is a great base for a well priced stay.
