Hotel de L'Opera
Ranked #100 of 175 Hotels in Bordeaux
Reviewed September 10, 2012

The most positive thing I can say about this hotel is that it is perfectly located in Bordeaux within easy reach of most of the sights and a short walk to many good restaurants. The hotel itself though I do not rate. It is essentially a bed and breakfast annex of Les Quatre Soeurs round the corner. Apart from breakfast time it is not staffed and although Les Quater Soeurs let us leave our cases on arrival it was not possible to get into L'Opera until 2pm. Our room on the 5th floor at the back was quiet but airless and during a time when it was hot in Bordeaux uncomfortably warm at night (no air conditioning) even with the window open. The room and bathroom were clean. We did though need to go to the other hotel to get more shower gel and toilet paper which were not replaced automatically. Standard French breakfast at 8 euros additional to the room price. In my view the whole package was quite pricey for what it is.

Room Tip: Although they look out on a small airless courtyard I am sure that the rooms at the back would be qu...

Dear Sir,

We are Sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Hotel de l'Opéra.
For a 2 * Hotel the rooms offer fully compliant equipment: a double bed, a TV, a desk with a telephone and a bathroom with toilet and shower.
As stated on our website, the hotel does not have air conditioning which is why we provide a fan in each room. The hotel is on 5 floors but they are serviced by a lift.

Hotel de l'Opéra is staffed in the morning by the cleaners and in the breakfast room located on the 1st floor of the hotel with beautiful views of the Opera of Bordeaux. For a fee of € 8 you are entitled to a buffet with hot and cold drinks, pastries and bread, butter and jam, cheese and yogurt.
Like in most hotels guest can take possession of their rooms only after 2 pm, unless the room was not occupied the day before. Our Hotel policy is to replace empty bathroom products and of course automatically replenish the toilets with toilet paper. We are very sorry that this was not carried out properly in your case. It is possible to ask for any extra amenities either at the reception desk of the 4 Sœurs hotel 50m from the Opéra hotel of from you room you may ring the reception a member of staff will bring you the forgot item.

We hope you may stay with us again so we can bring you a better experience of our hotel, and we could recommend a room at the front of the hotel at a lower floor if you prefer.

The location of this hotel, small sister of the larger "Les Quatre Soeurs" just around the corner can't really be beaten. The room we had (58.00-73.00 euros) was adequate but a bit on the small side and had a window looking out onto an enclosed quad, so no view. The shower room was clean with a fantastic pressure shower which had the downside of flooding the floor. Bedlinen/towels were of good quality and if you aren't intending to spend a lot of time in the room it serves the purpose of having a good night's sleep if your neighbours aren't too noisy as the soundproofing is quite basic. Beware hidden charges. If our room was the 73.00 euro one, one wonders what the 58.00 one would be like but it didn't seem like there was any 58.00 available (at any time?). Although for Bordeaux centre this is a good price, you could do better if you shop around.

Room Tip: Avoid any rooms close to the lift as people come and go through the night so this could be noisy

Perfect location and comfortable bed. Not for those wanting luxury, but the basics are there. Will book again.

I'm grading on the curve for a 2-star hotel property. It is certainly not more than a 2-star property. But - it is an easy walk from the best places for dinner and the cathedral. It's also right around the corner from the Tourism Office and the Maison de Vin.

We spent 2 nights in a room with 2 double beds. It was fine - had an elevator, which helped with bags. The shower got backed up - but I think that was a random event and not indicative of normally being able to expect working bathroom fixtures.

I would stay here again - though next time I just hope to have a bigger budget so I don't have to!

Hotel de l'Opera really does have a perfect location, right in the centre of Bordeaux, with all sights, shops and restaurants on the doorstep. The room was quite boxy and could have done with a lick of paint, but it was comfortable. It was quite dark but that was because we were on the top floor with a small round window that looked out onto the opera house - a great view but the room lost a lot of light from having such a small window. I think you're paying mostly for the location, and it definitely serves that, but if you're looking for a swanky hotel then it isn't for you.

This was on of the options given for the Bordeaux Tourism Office for a weekend plan including tour of the city and to the wine country. the location is great, near the tram, the river walk and the city attractions. Tiny rooms, but very clean, room service was great. Brakfast was adequate. The whole Tourism Office offer is a great value for the money.

Stayed here for 2 nights on my first visit to Bordeaux in July. The room was comfortable but very pokey. I plan to return to Bordeaux in about two years and will pay a bit more and stay at the " 4 Soeurs" around the corner -- run by the same management but more comfortable. Having said that, Opera is " adequate". And also very central-- a few steps from the Tourist Office ( where all the tours begin) , Quincones tram stop/park and the Opera House with some great restaurants and wine stores.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Opera House.
