“Loved it”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

It can be hard to find a good restaurant open on a Monday night, and we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent dinner we had at Dubern bistrot gourmand in early October (the gastronomique restaurant is closed on Mondays but the bistrot on the main floor is open). The interior was clean and upscale, sophisticated yet approachable, with old photos of the city running on a screen near the entry. The staff were friendly and eager to please--gave me a taste of two whites I was choosing between and chatted about the weather and the 2013 Bordeaux season ("catastrophe"). We ordered off the a la carte menu because the pasta with scallops and mushrooms was calling us; otherwise the fixed menu would have been a great value. I switched to red wine with the pasta and it was an excellent pairing. Service was sensational and the food was delicious. Highly recommend this place, near the Grand Hotel/Place de la Comedie.

“Bordeaux Finery”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We had walked past this restaurant on our way back to our nearby hotel. We reserved a table for two and returned for a really fine French meal, serviced with exquisite service. It was our most enjoyable meal in Bordeaux, and that's saying something. The staff were incredibly professional, with suggestions to my French speaking wife who enjoyed the attention! Menu suggestions were sincere, and the matching wines were superbly balanced. We would attend here, with friends next time, at the earliest opportunity.

“Excellent Food and service”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

We were recommended this restaurant by a lady from a local wine tasting shop. We loved this restaurant, the decor was extremely nice and the service from pour waiter was very helpful' as we do not speak much french, but his English was quite good.
We chose the 2 courses for 19 euro which was very good value. I had a fish in Bearnaise sauce entree while my wife had an egg that had been boiled , crumbed and served with a sauce. Very delicious. Foe mains we had carved duck and I had a beef dish.
The came out highly decorated and tasted excellent.
The bathrooms here are also exceptionally upmarket and clean.
I would recommend this restaurant to friends and we will probably go again before we leave Bordeaux.

“Trendy place to be seen”
Reviewed September 28, 2013 via mobile

On a recent visit to Bordeaux we found this restaurant as we were walking along the street.

It was empty when we passed at lunchtime 12.30 and we sat down at a table outside. Within 20 minutes it was full. It was clear we were among the great and the good.

Probably not really the type of food we were looking for but it was very good if nothing else.

It was one of these meals you leave hungry after.

Fixed price menu 21euros but fairly limited for choice. One of our party had a main course off the a la carte.

Linguine with scallops. Not a huge portion and 28 euros.

Clearly place to be seen.

Lunch was good but as I said a bit up market for what we were really after.

“Don't visit if you are vegetarian”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

After pre-visiting in the afternoon, to check they could provide a veggie meal - and being reassured they could - imagine our disappointment when the starter was two sliced tomatoes and three slices of Baby Gem lettuce. And the main course was a mushroom omelette, served with about six chips. Thel cost was 23 euros, ridiculous. The others in the party had good food, nicely served by a waiter who spoke impeccable English and gave very good advice re wine. Another niggle is that a friend asked if they could have the green salad as a starter too, and was told that there was only enough salad in the kitchen for the vegetarian diner......the table of men behind us, who arrived much later than we did, all started with the same salad, and went on to eat steaks, so I'm not too sure why we were told that about the salad? Odd.
