It can be hard to find a good restaurant open on a Monday night, and we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent dinner we had at Dubern bistrot gourmand in early October (the gastronomique restaurant is closed on Mondays but the bistrot on the main floor is open). The interior was clean and upscale, sophisticated yet approachable, with old photos of the city running on a screen near the entry. The staff were friendly and eager to please--gave me a taste of two whites I was choosing between and chatted about the weather and the 2013 Bordeaux season ("catastrophe"). We ordered off the a la carte menu because the pasta with scallops and mushrooms was calling us; otherwise the fixed menu would have been a great value. I switched to red wine with the pasta and it was an excellent pairing. Service was sensational and the food was delicious. Highly recommend this place, near the Grand Hotel/Place de la Comedie.
