Nice hotel as it is walking distance to Old Town and Place la Boursa. Near the hotel there are many Michelin star restaurants. Stayed in the duplex room but the upper bedroom has a nasty smell with the corner rooms. Small single lift can be a problem.

Brand new property, modern style, with high level of service. All requests promptly met (even before arrival) and staff very proactive. Many reviewers have elaborated a lot about the location of the MGallery Burdigala. I agree that the vicinity is not the best of Bordeaux (1960s ugly business and shopping center). But Burdigala is not responsible for the area and easy walks will take you to more interesting places in Bordeaux (Bordeaux traffic is a nightmare by the way, worst than Paris). For me, Burdigala's rooms, staff and restaurant provide advantages that exceed by far the slightly disadvantaging location. Some very minor issues such as housemaid entering to clean up the room while we were still inside (delayed check-out) explain I do not credit Burdigala with the highest score... yet.

The Grand Hotel (aka Regency) and the Burdigala seem to be the two best hotels in the city. The former is located in the center of the old town action. The latter has been very recently renovated. In my opinion, reviewers are so (justifiably) enthused about what this hotel has to offer that they underestimate the walking time to the center. It is not 5 or even 10 minutes. I found the distance from the center to be the only downside. Mitigating this downside is the new metro system that runs a couple of blocks away from the hotel which will take you comfortably into the center. Exacerbating this downside is the lack of taxis in the city. There is a taxi stand a block or so from the hotel, but only once in 4 days was a taxi available there. Perhaps all the taxi drivers were enjoying their August break.
We stayed here in late August on the "City Experience" promotion, 195 euros per night, breakfast included. And that breakfast is wonderful--an extensive choice of everything you can imagine. The facilities are truly modern, and everything worked. We had the smallest category of accommodation, but it was rather roomy by European standards. And there are outlets everywhere for charging all our gadgets. Comfortable bed and a super shower. The wi-fi offered free of charge had its limitations. One had to log in every day and every time one left the hotel, which seemed to be an unnecessary pain.
The best aspect of this hotel is the quality of the personnel at every level. They were perfect except for one instance. We had in our wine tours acquired several brochures and books which we thought were too heavy to include in our luggage going home. Since we were leaving on a Sunday, we asked the front desk to mail them for us. I explicitly asked not to mail them express but via regular mail, as we were in no hurry to receive them. Well , that request fell through the cracks between Sunday and Monday, the mail almost beat us home, and we were charged 49 euros. A bitter pill to finish off an otherwise lovely stay. However, since others are not likely to trust them with their mail, my evaluation does not reflect this incident.

Room Tip: Since we had the cheapest room and found it more than adequate, I do not think there are any bad roo...

We stayed at the Hotel Burdigala in September 2012. We booked here based on the favorable reviews found on Tripadvisor.

Upon arriving, we were very happy with the location. Only a short 5 minute walk in either direction to shops and restaurants - we were pleased that the Burdigala was located in a relatively quiet section of the street. I usually prefer to be close to the action instead of in the middle of it - and this location was ideal for that preference.

But, the primary impression we took away from our stay was the beauty of the hotel and the outstanding level of service. We arrived at 9:45pm on our first night from the train station - tired & hungry. The gentleman at the front desk who helped us with our luggage escorted us to our room - which was complementary upgraded (I, believe, based on availability). What a delight! It was such a beautiful room that we had to take a photo ;) The room was beautifully designed - similarly to the lobby, restaurant, and other facilities - in a modern, chic and tastefully appointed decor. And, the bed! We've stayed at 5 hotels thus far on our European travels, and this bed tops them all - incredibly comfortable with high quality bedding.

After the initial delight at the room, our hunger returned and we asked the gentleman what time the restaurant closed - and he replied 10pm. Being only a few moments before then, we requested if there was time for a late seating. He promptly checked downstairs and called to the room that they'd be happy to serve us. We went downstairs and had a fantastic meal and, of course, wine - with friendly service to top it off. Back home, you can get annoyed glances from the staff with such a late seating - at the Burdigala, no such reaction. It was a great start to a 3-day stay and throughout there was no deviation from this initial impression.

Over the course of our time there, we made several requests of the staff - directions, recommendations, and also requested that another gentleman at the front desk help us to book train tickets online via a French only website. Despite no warning to the request, he politely guided us through page by page - translating and informing as he went - until we were able to obtain a confirmation. Wonderfully helpful and kind throughout.

All in all, we were very happy with our stay. In returning to Bordeaux, we would gladly stay again and would recommend it highly to others.

Everything about this hotel was excellent. The room was luxurious and very well designed. The bed was extremely comfortable with very high quality bedding. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Breakfast was most enjoyable. The hotel is only a very short walk (no more than 5 minutes) from the city centre and they have an underground carpark with valelt parking. Not more I can say except thank you.

This hotel is the ultimate in contemporary luxury - glad to say no floral to be seen.
A short 5-10 min walk to the centre of town, depending on which part you are going to. We ate in the hotel restaurant one evening and the food was exceptional. We were also directed to fantastic restaurants by the hotel who listed to what we were asking.
Would definately stay again if were were in town.
